I wanted to know it might be illegal. Programs such as model change are out and model edit. But wanted to know if there is such a mod where i can change eye color, and let other people see it.

Who cares about something as insignificant as eye color.... You can hardly even see your characters eyes, and I garuntee you if you were to change them, not a single person would notice, ever.

Did you really have to reply if you were going to say that?

question asked... not answered!

If no one cares about something as insignificant as eye color, why would you think they care about your smaller answer?

He/she obviously cares.

However, I do not think there is a mod that allows you to change the look of your toon. Too dangerous.

All mods and programs to change color / skin / etc are client side only - meaning - only you will see it. You cannot change data on a Blizz server, but you can change it on your pc.

Changing the data files also violates the EULA, and you run the risk of ending up with your account banned (One of the things the Warden *does* is checks the validity of the WoW datafiles).

Indeed. Tinkering with the MPQs to enact such changes on your side only is potentially bannable, not by intent but the need to keep the core datafiles as set, as if anyone could mess around with the data files, they could give themselves a major advantage, such as changing the flag model used to another file given the old file location and name. These things are kept preserved and protected in order to simply keep things level and as intended. Messing around with them will probably get the account banned when it is detected.

Ok, I'm once again taking a thread and asking my own question...but I'm curious with the whole "banning" thing and changing WoW files.

I'm so confused about Mods and the legalities surrounding their use. I've heard several stories of people getting banned for using interface mods, mail mods, and map mods. When you download and zip to the WoW interface folder, are you taking the chance with ANY mods you do this with? Or are there certain, for sure mods, that won't get you banned?

In terms of eye color- for this posters sake, do you think Blizzard will allow a more diverse range of personalization with the new expansion pack coming out? I can think of several posts in the last few weeks asking for skin colors that weren't there, and now eye color. What's the feasibility of this?

...I'm totally in work question mode.

UI mods (things that go inside the Interface\AddOns folder) are *not* modifications of Blizzard's files. Here's the reference: World of Warcraft Bug Exploitation and Client/Server Manipulation Policy (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20224).

Changing the skin colors/eye colors of characters isn't a UI mod, it is a change to the actual files Blizzard has (for example, there was one that went around months before TBC was launched, which made the Druid Flight Form graphic be used as the Travel Form one, which was what it originally was intended for). These alterations to Blizzard's files should never be confused with the Lua/XML scripts that get dropped off in the Interface\AddOns folder.

The mods found on this site, are Lua/XML scripts that add functionality, from within the confines of what Blizzard established as the correct way of doing such things. Now, some Lua/XML scripts can exploit something that they should not (the article I referenced explained "malicious UI modifications"), but Lua/XML UI modifications are not automatically bannable.

Now, changing the actual graphics or other data inside the client program -- either altering the files, removing some files, or whatever, *is* potentially bannable. It goes completely against what Blizzard intended, and what Blizzard permits. Mostly because it is a Pandora's Box of things that could cause all kinds of havoc... People can easily put things in there that make things easier for themselves, giving themselves an unfair (exploitative) advantage over others. Changing the skin color/eye color/hair color of the character models alters these files, and while it seems innocent enough, Blizzard's policy makes it very clear that such things violate the ToU/EULA.
