I've been playing WoW for a couple months now and I'm wondering how people sell rare and epic items in the Auction House. If I ever pick up a rare item it is bind on pickup and then soulbound to me so I can no longer sell it in the auction house. How are people selling these items? How do I get a rare item to sell without it being soulbound to me? Sorry if this is a common question.

Well, if it truly is a BOP, the AH won't actually let you sell it or even list it for that matter. You do however see people either mistakenly trying to or just being stupid in the trade channels a whole lot. You'll get a warning that you're about to pick up a BOP (bind on pickup) item before you loot it. Either you pick it up and it becomes soulbound, or, you leave it there, or, as an alternative, you disenchant it and sell the dust/essence/shard, whatever you get from it.

Completely off your topic, but anymore I vendor greens and just sell the blues at the AH, I just have that bad of luck selling greens (Azeroth ones) :) Anyway, I hope I answered your question.

I am under the assumption that all items rare and higher are BOP when you loot them. Am I wrong? I see items in the auction house that are blue and purple. How are people obtaining these items without them being BOP?

Yes there actually are loads of BOE blues and purples out there, I've had quite a few of them (blues, purples seem to be evading me this time around, lol).

Ok that answers my question then. I guess I have just been getting unlucky by finding blue items that are all BOP. Thanks

hmmm here's how it goes
Most bosses in instances will have BoP purples and blues
whereas BoE Purples and blues are random world drops. So you just have to get lucky really, could drop anywhere. Ive got about 50 hours played and never had a purple drop. My guildie had 3 in one day. Such is life...

Sounds like you need a "lucky rabbit foot" ;) Yes, silly as it seems, as soon as I satisfied my guildies and killed the wolves outside Ironforge to get one, I started getting blue drops like crazy (or, Blizz could have added extra ones to random mobs to make leveling in the old world a little more fun...I'm giving credit to the rabbit foot for the time being, lol)

Note to self: Fly back to Felwood today. I went unfriendly with the suckers just so I could get through the tunnel....then later find out I have a completed quest I can turn in......when I'm neutral with them. Uh, Blizz, what the? lol.

If it is a BoP or Soulbound I simply sell it to a vendor. You might not get much money for the item but nothing else you can do. Well, there is one thing you can do. If you are doing Enchanting you can disenchant the item and sell what you get on the AH.

That's why I love those chars of mine who have enchanting - anything that is BoP, or old gear that has been replaced, is easily disenchanted and either used for enchants or sold on the AH. ^^

That said, I also really like to need BoP's in instances when nobody else does - then I disenchant for the shard and everybody /rolls to see who gets it. It's a nice way to make a useless BoP useful, and it gets you on people's good side too. At least, it really works that way for me.

Easy rule:
BoP items mirror effort (boss drops, quest rewards)
BoE items mirror luck (random drops from any appropriately levelled mob)

I was doing the Jintha'Alor quests in The Hinterlands a couple of weeks ago and suddenly, from a random troll, Ring of Saviors dropped. Sold for about 50G.
