skipping frames in windowed mode

so I recently got a laptop from work that has been giving me some wow problems

it has a 2.0ghz intel core duo chip, 2 gigs of ram, and a GeForce 7300 go graphics card

So here's the problem

It had vista on it and that sometimes had sound problems [it was staticy]
I replaced vista with xp because it is a better os imo, i like it more. Well... the sound issue is fixed but now when i run the game in windowed mode it seems to want to glitch and it does what looks like skipping a frame every second or so. I'm running fine at about 20 fps. I've tried adjusting many settings but nothing has worked. I even tried new video drivers.

Anyone have a bright idea on why it does this? or any things i should try?

If the V-Sync is off, try switiching it on, and vise versa if it is currently on. This might be the cause.

Also, try dropping the Windows Desktop resolution, see if that has any effect.

I tried a bunch of different combinations and if i lower wow to 800x600 and chop the desktop resolution in half it seems to go away

i guess i'll deal with it until i find a better solution. If i go fullscreen then it doesn't do it so far as i can tell.


it's just strange that it didn't do it in vista.
