Ok, i'll try to make this as simple as possible without getting
any of you confused.

My brother recently bought a WoW Battle chest, which includes
the B.C Expansion pack. He installs it on my computer, and uses
both CD-Key. I was interested in the game, and decided to use
the 10-day trial, and now in order for it not to get canceled
i'll need to buy a new retail version of WoW for a CD-Key.

Now the question, can i just buy the ORIGINAL WoW and
upgrade it with the authentication key when i purchase it?
AND STILL PLAY B.C since it is already installed on my computer.
Or would i have to purchase the battle chest as well? Which I
do not want to do.

Note: I do not want to share an account with my brother.

Thanks for helping guys.

Afaik, you can buy WoW itself, upgrade and it won't be a big deal. Account is what determines if you are TBC compliant or not and therefore get that stuff.

You can buy normal WoW and upgrade your account and that will work, but it won't let you use any of the TBC-only content (new races, outland, gemcrafting) regardless of whether it's installed or not. Then when you want TBC stuff you can buy TBC, upgrade your account, and have access to it all straight away.

alright guys, thanks for such a quick reply
last couple of questions

so i can't upgrade it by using my brothers B.C CD-Key?

Also, if i don't upgrade now, can i upgrade directly to Lich King, when
it comes out?
Thanks again guys

No, you can't assign a used CD key to a new account. In order to access Burning Crusade content you need to purchase the expansion. If you aren't interested in making a Blood Elf or a Draeni, you can just get regular WoW, and when you get your char to level 60 you can buy the expansion and it opens up new worlds.

I researched this just this morning about the B.C and heres what i got
from the FAQs of Blizzard

How many copies of the expansion are needed for players with multiple accounts?
You need one copy of the expansion for every World of Warcraft account that you wish to upgrade.

to translate, does that say i can use my brothers copy of the expansion and put it on my account correct?

Nope. one per account. 1- your brother 1- you= 2

As above, that says that you need one copy of The Burning Crusade per WoW account, so you cannot share them.

As for WOTLK it's not been confirmed but I'd expect that you'll need to buy TBC as well as WOTLK to get access to everything.

the disks are just disks. you can download both the original WoW and TBC for free from
Blizzard. go to Blizzard's Online Store (http://shop.blizzard.com/section1/?user=K7q/M5ZcEQeeKCs27aL6IC7GeS8w4iPnKikMFh5Y3W
U=), select "World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade -
Direct Online Upgrade", and give them your trial account login info. This should 1,
upgrade the account to a full account w/ TBC, and two, start the download for TBC
content to your pc. Whatever you do, DO NOT upgrade your account to TBC until you're
ready to install TBC on your computer. Your account won't be able to log in unless you
have TBC installed. There were quite a number of people who were upset about this just
before TBC's release - they upgraded the account in anticipation of beating the server
rush on the account servers and weren't able to log in because TBC wasn't installed.
Here's your order of events to summerize (I'm sure you've done steps one and two already)-

1) Install WoW (which is the full client btw) - DONE
2) Start trial account - DONE
3) upgrade account via Blizzard account editor (go to www.worldofwarcraft.com, click on

account, then "manage account". log in, and choose upgrade)
4) make sure you've upgraded all the way to TBC (denoted under account type)
5) install TBC on your computer
6) upgrade patches (this'll take a while)
7) enjoy :-)

hope this helps

He already has TBC installed.

There's very little reason to bother upgrading your account to TBC until you get close to level 60 unless you specifically want a Blood Elf or Draenei or really want to level Jewelcrafting.
