Weaponsmithing: What's the best?

First off, I've looked everywhere for a solid answer to this question and I can never seem to get one. So let's be straight forward. My main focus will probably be pve though I intend to pvp a lot for fun and for items. What weapon path should I take? I've read countless times that Maces are by far the best for pvp (though most of these threads are before the newest patch). If I go Maces, will I still be efficient in pve? I've also read that Sword work well for both (again, most of these threads have been before any newer patches). And from everything I've seen, though they're personally my favorite out of the three, Axes don't even seem to compare to the other two.

I guess what I'm really asking is if you were me, with pve as my main focus but also liking to do pvp for fun, what weaponsmithing path would you choose?

What do you mean with Pve? raiding? instances? And are you going to tank or DPS? It's a bit hard to answer imo.

And you have to keep in mind that if you do Alterac Valley till you have 25k honor, you get weapons that are better then the stuff you make with BS until you get into SSC and TK and start looting Nether Vortexes.

Well, when I say pve I mean really all things involved; questing, instances, raiding if I can ever find a group, etc. As for Tanking or DPS, I'd prefer DPS which is probably what I'll stick with unless I absolutely have a horrible time getting instances and such.

Really, I guess, what's better for me out of the 2-handers?

Axes focus on chance to crit and resilience ruin it in PvP so axes arent good choice for PvP.
Maces focus on chance to stun which make them best in PvP but worse in PvE since bosses and many raid monsters are immune to stun.
Swords are golden middle.
