View Full Version : New... and banned?
I bought WoW exactly a week ago, and in the middle of playing today I was disconnected. Long story short, no email was sent to me and when I try logging it it says I've been banned.
I googled some stuff and found out people sometimes get banned on WoW for no reason and it's usually a big group of people. Has anyone else been banned recently for no reason? I'm really confused. I haven't used any programs or cheated in any way. I haven't even cussed on the game.
I did email them, but I'm hoping someone can make me less nervous about what's going to happen to my account (do they even unban?).
Edit:
A minute after posting this an email was sent.
"According to the World of Warcraft Terms of Use, to which all players agree when installing World of Warcraft, Section 5, Paragraph C [Rules Related to Game Play] states that you may not do anything that Blizzard Entertainment considers contrary to the "essence" of World of Warcraft."
I'm so confused...

keep emailing them. This happened to me a while back and I was completely innocent and after a few weeks of emails back and forth I was re-instated. If you haven't done anything wrong keep emailing. Kind of annoying really but there ya go.

yeah im not sure man. email blizz and request ban information. it may have been a mistake, or an enemy player in-game may have filed a fraudulent report against you...
I emailed them, and now I'm going to call them because I am not letting people who don't even properly check accounts have my money. Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll either edit or post again on how the call went.
Edit:
They don't help you with suspended accounts, says I have to email them. I'm guessing their reply will take a while. :/

keep pestering they told me they won't tell me the details and I kept emailing. THey told me I was exploiting to advance my character and I kept emailing asking them to examine my characters and see that they have no abnormal advancement (my gear is quite sh$% actually). I asked them to show me the smoking gun and eventually I was reinstated.

keep emailing them. I would email them a few times every day, and ask for updates. Unfortunately it is stated in the rules when installing so that does suck...but nonetheless it's no reason for them to keep you banned.
I find crying always works...normally gets me either out of a jam or what I want ;)
Good luck! I'd hate to be in your shoes *knocks on wood*

Gender may have some impact on the effectiveness of crying, however.

First, Welcome to the game and the forum!
So, as I understand, you have never had a previous account, and have played for a week now. And, nobody else has been given your account info for any reason....not your mom in Ohio (when you live in CA), not your brother, sister, gf, bf. And, no other accounts which have been linked to your credit card have (because there are none) ever been banned?
...and, you have not ever installed (even if you never used it) a bot of any kind, etc.? Nobody else is helping you level while you are at work, school, etc.?
If all of this is true, keep on blizzard and you'll eventually get your account back with all of your stuff intact.

LOL, am I being mocked for editing?! D: I've been on forums before, and I always hate when people double post when they could easily edit.
I've never used any kind of bot, or.. well anything. Would they ban me for getting help from a guy to do a quest? About 4 days ago a guy in my guild helped me with a dungeon quest, so maybe they thought that was unfair... I just thought of that a few minutes ago and thought I should let you guys know.
They said in their email that sending more emails will take them longer to reply. However, before I went to bed last night I did get an email confirming they got my reply and would read and reply to it shortly.

If you mean by helping you escorted you around and helped your toon fight mobs with his bigger toon then that is totally alright.
If you mean he helped you by sending you a link to a site that sells you gold then that is not alright.

No.
Getting in-game help from another in-game character is perfectly fine, and in fact is encouraged.
I'm talking about people other than you accessing your account....If your mom, brother, sister, etc. accesses your account, it is a technical violation that is likely bannable.
Some people in the game have used leveling services, giving their account info to that (often offshore) company for them to provide the leveling service. That action is bannable.
In-game grouping and questing, instancing is GREAT!
If you mean he helped you by sending you a link to a site that sells you gold then that is not alright.
I disagree....but only on a technicality....
Sending the link is not bannable...Using the link to buy gold is bannable.

this is the essence of WoW - it puts the MMO in MMORPG. without being able to team up with other people, the entire social experiment that is WoW would have folded a long time ago.

I should have added in the "epic mount" and "vajayjay" comments as well . . . lol
My brother used to play WoW, but I doubt he'd go on my game. He'd have to know my username and password, which isn't possible since I've never told anyone.
I have 3 or 4 characters on the game because I wanted to test out different classes and races, but... I know that's not against the rules. The guide book I got says it's encouraged. It could just be a mistake that they made, so hopefully they reply soon. I'm really thankful for all this support! I'm lucky to have joined this forum.
It just confuses me... how would they even know if someone was on my account? Unless they signed in from a different computer. And you said it's encouraged to get help on quests so that can't be it. Being paranoid isn't good at a time like this, ahahah.

when it comes to WoW, Blizzard knows all and sees all. they have automated programs keeping track of who logs in, for how long, and from what IP address. if someone stole your account info and sold it to a *cough*Chinese*cough* gold seller, said gs began to use your account over in China, and you complained to Blizz because they changed your login info and/or stole your gold and stripped your characters, Blizz would believe you (eventually) because you live in Hoboken, Wisconsin (just an example), not Bejing, China, and the IP addresses of you and the Chinaman would show that. remember, if you're logged in to their servers, it's basically like agreeing to live in a society where all actions are watched over 24/7 and suspicious activity is reported to a living, breathing person who wields a banhammer almost immediately.

they scan the IP address when you log on and they log it they will then asses if the account is being used by more than one person.

Is it possible that your bro played using the same comp you have?
If not, no prob...If so, did he possibly download/use something WOW would consider bannable?

He played on his computer last year :P At least I know it wasn't because of someone being on my account (because they'd know by tracking a different IP). I'm going to stay calm now and assume it was a mistake and that I didn't do something wrong.
Is it okay if I ask which add ons are safe and legal? Just so I don't accidentally get one in the future that isn't allow. I doubt I need any, though...

If you have a "mod" that is an executable, its probably suspect...Bear in mind that blizzard's software can often find old unauthorized software your bro might have used, even if you've never used it. So, you might want to stay away from his comp. :)
If it is a script that needs to be in the Interface/addons/ folder to operate properly, you are probably ok.

Me misquoting people, or using the edit button for fun and giggles? Never  Many people say I have no sense of humour. I assure otherwise, that it exists, it's just a little suprising due to lack of formality and grace. You seem to be making a good run of quotable material in the last week, a pity I can only choose the one.

and no...i'd never suck up to one of the green guys! *bats eyes*
They emailed me this morning saying they checked my account and have decided to take away my ban and... whatever that thing is that would show GMs that a person has done something wrong.
My advice is send one email and wait 3 days, I think they respect that a lot more :P

A Chinese player must, in fact, work through a proxy in order to bypass government network restrictions, thus making the true source of the connection reletively untracable.
I'm willing to bet that a player sitting in China would not be able to get their latency under 1s or so on a US server. That'd make the game unplayable.
The ever-present label "chinese gold farmer" is a misnomer. Those organizations are much more likely to be in countries where there is lesser network restriction, such as Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc.
