hey guys im just deciding to get back into WoW, i quit playing about 2 months before the expansion released...

i know WoW isnt graphic intensive but im just wondering what GFX card it would take to pump everything up to max settings, including max res and max AA.

If it helps im also gonna have this ram and CPU

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (OCd to 2.7ghz dual core)
2gb DDR2 800

Probably. does your motherboard support PCI express?

yes it does. (sorry for the delayed response, was playing the Turok demo for 360.)

Lol no worries. The 8600gt would likely be more than enough to play the game at high settings.

We have a technical forum for questions of a technical nature, and a Recommended Hardware sticky with ready made suggestions for systems for both high end and medium levels of peformance.

The 8800 GT is a great part, wish I had one in my regular machine, but I only get to put them inside other people's PCs  The 8600 GT is indeed sufficient for gameplay at a medium-high level. The processor will bottleneck performance long before the graphics card will, at any rate. It'll be a good WoW machine.

i play with a non-overclocked 6600 on medium settings and it runs like butter (or buttaah, if you're an SNL fan). it'll run fine

I had a 7800gt that ran 1680x1050 maxed out with no problems.

Take note that a 7800gt is probably a touch faster than the 8600gt.

I'd assume the 8600gt would do just fine.

The 8600gt benchmarks a few FPS higher than the 7800gt and is about even with a 7900gt, but it fairs better with AA and AF turned up and on higher resolutions.

I was under the assumption that the 8600s had a smaller bus and were more limited at higher resolutions, but I could be wrong.

All 3 will run WoW easily though.
