For those times when you've got a new PC, it is a PAIN IN THE @$$ to install Warcraft again - finding the discs, the key, then waiting hours while the patches reload. Then getting all your favourite addons back...

There is no need to do any of that.

(If your old hard drive works)

Just connect your old hard drive to your new PC (as a slave, don't try and boot off it). In there, probably in your 'Program Files' folder, you'll have the 'World of Warcraft' folder.

Copy this folder. Put it in your new main drive (almost certainly your C: drive).

Inside the copied Warcraft folder will be a file called 'Launcher. e x e'. Right-click on this and select 'Send copy to desktop'.

You now have a new shortcut which will start Warcraft. That's it. Done. Remove the old drive at your leisure. The whole process should take less time than the original install.

This has worked twice for me so far on XP. Not tried on Vista but I suspect it will work there too. It's not hardware-dependent, as both times it was on completely different kit from the one I did the original install on.

I've been doing this for years.

I also keep a copy of WoW on my 40gb portable hard drive that I can take anywhere and play. :)
