I don't know if you already have the required riding skill, check on your skills bar. If you don't have it you will need to buy it from the trainer, who for humans is in elywnn forest somewhere to the east i think.

The Paladin mount comes with training. If you have the epic Warlock mount then you probably also have Riding 150 (though it will say on your character sheet). If you don't have your Warlock epic then you'll need to pay for the riding lesson.

You will either need to buy your epic riding skill at 60 or do your warlock quest for the epic mount which should give you the required riding skill. Beyond that, you will need to be exalted with Ironforge to buy their mounts unless you go for the PvP mount (not sure which one this is as I am Horde) which costs 30 tokens each from WSG, AB, and AV.

Just do the Epic Mount quest so you receive riding (150) and be over with it - riding skills are quite expensive, and if you can get it for free then you'd be foolish not to. At least, that's my humble take on it.

Warlock Epic Mount quest is hardly free. The materials needed can rival the riding skill costs. See the Warlock forum to find someone who can hook you up with the reusable portion of the materials.

I was on my lvl 60 alt lock the other day in Westfall and someone whispered me, calling me obscenties because I hadn't yet gotten my "free" epic mount from the trainer ("It's free, ur a moron to not have it.")
The lvl 40 mount is "free" as a skill (however much gold a normal skill costs at that level), but the level 60 mount (epic) will normally cost about 300-400g or so in mats. I went ahead and bought the items to do the ritual and got the potions and such from guild bank and spent overall about 300g or so. While it's definitely cheaper than just buying the skill, it's definitely not free.
To OP - you should have Riding (75) when you get your level 40 mount. You need riding (150) to ride an epic ground mount and you can get this from either your epic warlock quest (the skill will be learned when you complete the quest in Dire Maul by talking with the defeated dreadsteed) or by buying it from a riding trainer.

The warlock epic mount quest is not the bargain it used to be, given that the prices of epic riding skill and mounts have dropped significantly. It's a fun quest and definitely worth doing, though. If you can find a warlock who already has the persistent components, you can save yourself about 150g. But it still ends up costing somewhere in the 300g range, if I recall correctly.
The Swift War Ram is a battleground/PVP mount, so you don't need Ironforge faction to get it. You do need 30 each of Warsong, Alterac Valley, and Arathi Basin marks, so you can start on that as early as you can get into each of these battlegrounds. But otherwise you need 60 and the riding skill to ride an epic mount.

If you don't do the quest then you'll end up spending 480g on learning Riding 150 (assuming that you are Exalted with whoever you're buying the skill from). The quest is harder work but saves you 180g+. By all means go for the ram but if you're really worried about expense then you should probably do the quest, if only for the saving in Riding skill.
PvP mounts are free but require the purchase of Riding skill.Bought Epic mounts cost 80g and require the purchase of Riding skill.Quested Warlock Epic costs approximately 300g in components but does not require the purchase of Riding skill.

Even getting the PVP mount you STILL have to have the riding skill and that is what costs you. The mount itself is not where the expense comes in.
The epic lock mount is next to impossible to get now because its practically impossible to get a goup for scholo. You're better off buying the 150 mount skill and either buying an epic mount or getting one using marks from the Battlegrounds...
Im still searching for a group for scholo for my 62 lock and its been lk 3 weeks of straight searching for one... lol

You do realize that a single competent 70 can solo it, right? So you don't need anymore than yourself and another to help you, not a full group. I'd recommend looking for another Lock, Feral Druid, or maybe Hunter.

Also:
Your Dreadsteed doesn't take up space in your inventory. Same as my recently acquired Flight Form !! DING L68 !!

2 Elixir of Shadow Power
6 Large Brilliant Shard and 25 Dark Iron Ore
3 Black Dragonscale
1 Arcanite Bar
Xorothian Stardust 150g
Shadowy potion 6g
Reusable:
J'eevee's Jar (150g)
Xorothian Glyphs (50g)
Blak Lodestone (50g)
Depends if you have anyone to help you with mats and a lock with the reusable items to join you. All the tradeskill items are pretty easy to gather for a 70 if you have good friends. I'd do it anyway really (well, I did actually ;) ). It's a bit sad being a warlock without the mount imo.

actually yeah i did get it lol it took a bit and i almost gave up but i got a 70 feral druid from my guild to help... thx for the advice tho
