WoW crashing, models messed up

Hello,

I attempted to ask for help on the official wow forums but it won't let me post for some reason, saying I don't have an available character, so I came here as I have a ton of problems.

My computer specs are:
Dell Inspiron 1720
Vista Home Premium
Core 2 Duo 1.66ghz
4gb RAM
Geforce 8400M GS

I have tried many different drivers from laptopvideo2go all with the same result.

I just downloaded and installed the wow trial yesterday everything worked fine and I got up to char select and saw that any skin that was exposed on a model is completely black, like the face, arms, legs. I can see the clothes fine, they look normal, the skin areas are just totally blacked out. Any hair is also solid green. Now I can actually get past this part though and enter the world fine, but now I get a bunch of new problems. I can see NPC models fine, their faces, everything looks fine, it's just me and other player models that have the green hair and black skin.

The next problems are just preventing me from playing at all. I'm just crashing non-stop, sometimes I'll just enter world and move forward and crash and I've been able to kill one thing but as soon as it died, I crashed again. The errors I'm getting are #124, 132 and 134. I looked them up and got a guide of what they are and how to attempt to resolve. I've tried everything and still keep getting them. It says that faulty memory could be causing this, but I don't know how that's possible as I just bought this laptop one week ago. I've been playing Eve on it perfectly with no problems, but WoW is giving me major troubles. I've copied a couple of the error logs if someone wanted to look at them, I'll post them.

If anyone could suggest anything I'd really appreciate it, I just don't know what is causing this at all. I've tried a million different video drivers all with the exact same result.

Hmm, you're getting a lot of memory errors. Just because the ram is new doesn't mean it wasn't manufactured poorly or is otherwise defective. Run Memtest (See the links section of the Recommended Hardware thread) overnight, if it gets anything, it's definantly bad memory installed into the laptop.

Would bad memory affect other games as well though? I've played many others so far with no problems, I'm just getting problems with WoW.

Depends how memory intensive they are. It can do indeed, but WoW is perticularly memory dependant, and thus weakenesses in that field tend to cripple it more so than in other games.

Dell Tech support (Canada) 1-800-387-5757. Tell them your issue and they will spend as much time troubleshooting it as they can. If parts have failed they can be replaced under warranty.

Just to follow up on this, I tried a hundred different things and nothing was working. Tested RAM, it was fine. I thought maybe the wow trial patcher messed something up in the DL process, it was a long shot but I didn't know wtf was causing the problems. So I downloaded the full game 3.5gb over a night and when I attempted to play again all the problems I had before were gone. The models looked perfect and I wasn't crashing at all. I've now been playing a couple days now with no problems.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestions and help here. It was an odd problem for sure.
