Ok, I think I'm getting to understand it but could someone please just fill in the blanks:

Wild PvP - You get honour or something for killing people in your level range. What is the level range and what does this honour get you?

BG PvP - This I really don't understand at all. Is it based on kills? Do you need a group or is it free for all? What do you get for it?

This is my 4th toon to my g/fs one and I've caught her up on levels now so I just want to PvP when she isn't on so I don't leave her behind on levels so I need to get cracking :)

Ok...well...*big breath*

1) "Wild PvP": You're traveling around killing gorillas for the nuts that they carry, and you suddenly spot a foe of the other faction....you duck behind the tree and pew pew them when they least expect it. If you kill someone that isn't gray (When you taget them, on their display icon, their name and level will appear a color, if this color is gray you won't get experience) you will get experience. This experience goes into you "honor" experience. Your honor experience will be under the PvP tab of your character information icon.

Battle grounds are different. They incorporate "wild PvP" as well as a common goal. This common goal is a team effort to either keep a flag, keep a base, etc (best to good wow battle grounds to get an idea of what each goal is of each battle ground, the strategies and so forth.

Battlegrounds are played with people between the 0-9 bracket, so that's 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, etc. When you play battlegrounds (or BGs) you get tokens as well as honor. The number of tokens is dependent on your success in the battleground. These tokens can be traded in (along with honor) for gear, weapons, items, trinkets, etc. You also get this "Wild PvP" experience depending on both how successful you are at completing the task as well as the number of HK's (Honourable Kills) you have.

Wild PvP happens in PvP realms, or when people toggle their PvP on in PvE, RP, Normal realms. Anyone can participate in BGs.

There is also Arena...I'm not the best person to give you advice on those though.

My suggestion is to try some BGs out, google them, and experiment! They're loads of fun :)

Battlegrounds and areana sound staged and un-fun, especially the pre-planned 2v2, 3v3 etc. I like to hunt people and take on as much as I can, whether it's 2v2 or 2v6. But I will try the battleground thing (an npc was trying to get me to do it last night but I got bored of the wait :( )

Alright, here's the skinny on Battlegrounds/Arenas. Should clear everything up for you. Just one general note: Battlegrounds/Arenas are staged, yes.. but WITHIN the battleground, there is basically free for all PvP between your team and the other team. It's quite fun and not boring at all. If you like to hunt people and take on multiple players at once, you CAN do that.. although it's not recommended, as you die pretty quickly.

Well the BG's and Arena's are up your ally then because there's something to be said about Arena when (for instance a 2v2) you and a partner are up against another team and the skills + gear have you gotten both teams to around the same rating - then it's you against them.

Also BG's are not "scripted" in the way you think. Take the wait at the Battlemasters (the npc's you can sign up at) and go in - you'll probably get stomped - but you'll also have a blast as long as you don't get frustrated. The stomping only occurs until you learn the BG layout and get good gear.

World PVP is awesome as well but you will often get to take advantage of the person you're about to pounce on, where as BG's and Arena's are more a test a skill and team play when compared to random world gankings.

On a side note - in-game - "Wild PVP" is actually referred to as "World PVP"

Here's a link to the arena and BG rewards:

For fun go to this next link and pick your race and class and check out the nice armor set looks.
Choose the pvp or arena sets as the others are Tier Gear from Raiding and don't pertain to your questions.

And there's a good WSG and AB guide in the general guide area of the this site.

Tried the BG last night and this morning - said average wait was 2 mins but I waited an hour with nothing. Can the people already in there decide they don't want you to come in next? As I was a 26 Pally I guess maybe I wasn't wanted :(

You can often wait quite a long time to get into BGs. I find this is especially prevalent for the Alliance. My trick is this- since you're a 26 sign up to join an arena match, WSG and AB all at the same time. That way you're more apt to get into a BG quicker.

I find I'll do an arena match while I wait. Then join an ungoing AB, and then start a WSG. It normally works out that I don't have to wait long, and I end up getting a lot of PvP action :)

Ooh and make sure when you do sign up to join a battleground, that you sign up to join the next available one, not one specific one (unless you know a friend is in there). Signing up for the next available one will get you in quicker ;)

Nope, everyone is thrown together - the game chooses who goes in.

Yeah, do what Tiki mentions here and your wait times IMO shouldn't be more than 10-15 minutes or so, even on a slow server. My average wait time is about 1-5 minutes in my battlegroup.

You can't do arenas until level 70. Even then, you have to be part of pre-arranged teams (that you have to join ahead of time) before you can queue up to play in them.

Queue up all of the battlegrounds that you can run at your level (the NPCs will either let you queue up or not) and try each of them out!

It is best to play in the battlegrounds when you are at the highest levels in the range (x8-x9) vs. low to middle range (x1-x7); you will have the highest abilities for your class at that level range and makes you tougher to kill (based on level) than your lower level enemies).

Always, always focus-fire on the lowest level enemy first (quicker, easier kills).

Yesh, was going to wait until 29 (or higher even) but I'm avoiding xp while the g/f catched me up on levels so seemed like a good idea.

I'm pretty sure you only gain experience at these low level ranges if you do the PvP daily quest. Even then I'm not sure it awards XP on turn-in.

I'll have to test that and find out on one of my lowby toons.

I know that you get various quests for the different BGs as well; those, of course, will award XP, but, if you are worried about "dinging" a level, don't turn the quests in. :)

Alterac Valley has mobs that can be killed for XP and is the only one like that.

IMO the best time to go into any BG is between the 6's and 9's - so that you're at the top of the bracket. Meaning go in between 26-29,36-39,46-49 etc so that you're at the top - if you go in at 30, 40, etc you're the lowest in the BG. Being at least on the 6's means you're only one set of skills, gear and spells away from the highest you can have in that bracket (ex: the 29 bg bracket - if you're 26 you're only missing the 28 set of skills). This means you won't get totally stomped on.

BG Brackets:

10-19
20-29
30-39
40-49
50-59 (+ 60 for AV)
60-69
