I understand that it is main day but it is past 11:00am PST now and I still cannot connect...

Is anyone else having this problem?

Can't connect to the website or the game...it always says "cannot connect to news server" then will not let me log in either...

I can connect to the WOW-Europe site just fine but not the main one, as a matter of fact I can connect to any other site on the net but this one...

It was working before I left for work this morning now upon return it doesn't work...

I have released, renewed, flushed DNS, restarted pc and modem over 5 times so that can't be the problem...as I mentioned it was working earlier in the day...

Any ideas?

BTW I cannot connect to the wow forums either so...

EDIT- Sys specs( I dont think this matters but ok...)

Antec 900 case

AMD 64 x2 4000+ (OC'd @ 2.6 Ghz stock HSF)

MSI K9A Platinum

Radeon x1950 x2 Crossfire

Corsair HX 620

Corsair Ballistix PC 6400 3G

WD Raptor HDD

LG DVD Burner

Windows XP Pro

Also I have pinged www.worldofwarcraft.com and it is there so I don't know what gives.

We're both in Canada maybe this has something to do with it, I dunno.

I have Bell Sympatico...do you have the same one?

I may call them and see if they know anything.

I dont have bell. Im with Rogers. I tried to ping www.blizzard.com and www.worldofwarcraft.com and neithr showed up. I called them too and went through the automated thing and when it went to connect to a live person it just hung up. Why dont you try calling them too.

Well I just called them again and talked to someone in technical service and they say they are getting a lot of calls from people in the Toronto Canada area on bell and some other internet service providers and they dont know what wrong. They say to call your specific isp and tell them the problem to see if they can fix it.

Well Bell just said that my line looks clean and there should be no problems.

I did everything that they would have had me do and email them a traceroute.

I'm in the GTA, yes

The technical support from Blizz tech support told me to do a tracert which is done from cmd promt by going
tracert us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com and it said
Unable to resolve target and the tech guy said that means I have no connection to Los Angelas where they are based.

I'm going to download the EQ2 trial I need to play something. The problem must be on the ISP's end...

Hey I am out in Northern Ontario, Tried 2 different carriers Bell & Vianet cannot connect on either. That is both the www and logon server.

Wich is strange due to the fact that we canot access the web servers as well?
I am thinking it is on their end they just do not want to admit it...

Post your location and ISP maybe we can get a day of credit on our accounts this happens too often on my 60 day game card...

ISP: Qualitynet
Location: Kuwait

I hate to say it, but I'm glad I'm not the only one...I'm experiencing the exact same problems, which happened right after that extended maintenance.

I'm guessing it has something to do with ports and ISP's...gonna wait it out. Hopefully, Blizz will have a fix tomorrow?

Its Internet. Comcast had a big wow-connection issue for a long time. Sometimes wow dosent let you on for no reason at all, but if you get that "Cannot connect to news server" Then wow/your internet is down. Its a way of checking if your internet works, in my opinoin.

no website (europe either)

i'm in Sudbury ON, about 4 hours north of Toronto, although a friend of mine is connected without any issues

One of Bell's DNS servers must be down. It'll likely take until tomorrow to fix. I really hate this ISP. Anywho, the internet holds all solutions.

http://www.opendns.com/

That's what I used. Hit get started. All you need to do is enter 2 little numbers. Disable later if it freaks you out.

Happy Wowing

Wrong. This is a DNS related issue, I tried explaining that to my ISP lackies but they know nothing of it and surely wouldn't escalate a ticket because a "lowly user" is claiming a DNS server issue. We can't connect, wow is working, and obviously our internet is working because we are here posting.

Editing the file as mentioned in qwertyca's post and putting the IP numbers in manually diverts from relying on a DNS server to "resolve" the warcraft.com domain into the IP's for us. Essentially if the taxi driver doesn't know where hooters is you give him directions yourself. That's all

EDIT: Since some of you seem to have missed my post about the FIX for this issue here's the link so u can't miss it

Thanks for that fix, Qwertyca!

Unfortunately, for me, it only worked for a short while. Eventually, the latency hit 7000+ ms, and I was disconnected...couldn't log back in. I'm in the process of contacting WoW Tech Support now.

I really hope it's not a local ISP issue...

I am just east of Toronto, on Sympatico high speed and my lan is fully functional except I cannot login to warcraft on any of 3 computers or connect to any warcraft or blizzard sites. I can watch streaming video on Youtube and otherwise the internet is running very good. BUT I cannot get the Warcraft going...This is making me mental. Worked fine yesterday morning before the scheduled warcraft maintenance but cannot connect since...checked my norton and router for blocking ...looks ok ...whaddup ??

There was a major systems crash the other day in TO. This may have something to do with it :(

just got off the horn with Bell Sympatico..did the change preferred and alternate DNS numbers and still no accessibility to WOW . At the end of the conversation the Bell rep said WOW was down and I should try again later...
how the heck can i check to see if WOW is up or down? CAn I believe these toads at Bell?...doubt it...

Ok, this thread doesn't exist anymore I guess, and I'm now having the same problems after my IP was switched over to Comcast last night. Cannot connect to the game or website, cannot tracert, tried obtaining a new IP address, flushing DNS, ect ect nothing working so far.

Help!
