View Full Version : Engineering good for PvP?

Had a duel with a 20 warrior on my 25 Pally last night and nearly lost because he ranged me a lot. Granted, I realised after the fight I didn't have a weapon equipped (was very tired ) but I asked in chans and people said I could get some range with engineering. Anyone advise me on this?
Have been Blacksmithing but am not so high I couldn't change profs.

There's a Net-O-Matic as well as rocket boots. There's bombs that stun opponents.
There's more gadget than inspector Gadget had.
Not all of it is useful and most of it will backfire occasionally, but if nothing else ... it's a blast.
And it's certainly the best profession for regular PvP. High end Arena games would value Enchanting more, but don't worry about that one - that's miles away still

Originally, I thought I needed Engineering to get a decent helm for the 19 bracket (goggles).
But all you need is the Lucky Fishing Hat from the STV contest. So Engineering is not a necessity.
That said, there are a lot of cool gadgets you can make/use if you have Engineering. It's a matter of personal taste.

Thats true but I would take the 'all' out of that statement. Its a pain in the butt, especially if you play on a PvP server. And the goggles look cooler.

hmm...engineering is a blast. You'll be excited to make all the recipes! I know I leveled my engineering up quite high in one day just so I could try all the things out!
With that said...I didn't find it made me money. A lot of what you make you have to be an engineer to use- making it hard to sell via the AH.
Playing WSG in the 10-19 you will notice A LOT of players have the engineering goggles. These goggles are nice to have since head gear for that level is almost nil.
Engineering is fun. If you choose to go with it, go with it because it's fun. Don't expect to make a killing off of it.

Good point. If you belong to a twink guild, you can bring bodyguards when you fish.

My dwarf hunter's an engineer. Her Gnomish Poultryizer, the Gnomish Net-o-Matic Projector are both regularly used in PvP situations as my trinkets. Frost Grenade also has a lot of uses (nobody expects a frost nova from a hunter!). Plus, her Turbo-Charged Flying Machine Control is convenient for getting around, especially in world PvP scenarios, Surestrike Goggles v2.0, with their slightly better stealth detection helps me ferret out rogues and druids, and then let's not forget the Adamantite Shells which keeps her gun with some nice DPS, and they are really nice and cheap to make any more. I'd like to get my schematics for Healing Potion Injector and Mana Potion Injector, but they are going for 1500g - 2000g on my server's Alliance AH.

Oh yes, many times I'm in world PVP, nobody expects me to chuck a grenade in his face. Engineering gives you the ability to surprise people. You can use the rocket boots (not the X-treme version) to blaze your way through WSG, place land mines at the flags, Death Ray that dying squishie, Poultry-rize that priest, Net flag-runners in place or, if you are goblin engineering, fire a rocket at people or just plain blow yourself up and take your opponents down with you.
