View Full Version : Respect for the Defias Pillager!

This is most definately old news, but it still cracks me up. A Blizzard employee once posted a list of the most dangerous mobs in the game, meaning the mobs with the most player killings on their name. Vaelastrasz the Corrupt (http://wowdigger.com/creature/view/13020/vaelastrasz-the-corrupt) got first place. Closing in on second place, however, is my new hero, the Defias Pillager (http://wowdigger.com/creature/view/589/defias-pillager). Yes, that's right, that means the only mob to surpass these bad motha:censored: in whooping players' behinds is a fricking huge dragon boss in Blackwing Lair. All the others have to admit defeat to the mighty Defias Pillager.

This list is quite old, I believe, but still, I wouldn't be surprised if the order hasn't changed and if the Defias Pillager is still runner-up, or even took first place. With an enormous 70-80 fireball damage to equally leveled players (yes, that's after being nerfed by Blizzard) in an area where other mobs do 10-20 damage, and where most players have around 300-400 HP, they are the noob killer extraordinaire.

Reading in the 2.3 patch notes about their nerf, I was getting a bit worried, but trying to level my new toon in Westfall has convinced me that they are still the true rulers of the place. You know you want to run when you're fighting one of these pathetically weak Defias Looters and suddenly hear a distinct "Huh!" sound and the crackling of a fireball being casted. But running is almost always to no avail... Seconds later, you are staring at your dead body on the ground.

So this is just a thread to express my deepest and utmost respect for the Defias Pillager! May the evil nerf stick of Blizzard never hit you again!

Oh yeah, I remember them. I died running through there at lvl 16 to do my aquatic quest for my first druid. I think I died again going to the summoning stone by there also.

That is too funny that they are second only to a boss.

Personally I think I've been killed most by the Devilsaur in Un-Goro (discounting Mentos, the player who corpse-camped me for the best part a day:laughing: - one day I'll get my revenge!).

If that list still exists....Fel Reavers must be somewhere close to the top since TBC....

Considering that it is all but unheard of for a Horde player to get killed by Defias Pillagers, this is a rather telling illustration of how skewed the faction imbalance was back in the day.

I don't think it was a faction imbalance so much as an anti-human stance. Maybe it's just me but I find the Human lowbie areas (From Elwynn to Darkshire) significantly harder than the equivalent zones for other races ... and I include the other Alliance races here.

Frankly I think that's quite reasonable since the WoW Humans are, frankly, loathsome creatures and the fewer of them there are, the better!

Can't agree here. For me the UD area from 12-22 SUCKED in the way of HARD (maybe I remember it that way because I was stuck in there with my first character). When I levelled my second UD she went right over to Crossroads at lv 12.

My first NE, Dwarf, Draenei all had an easier time (not counting Ban Etil Barrow Den or whatever the name is...we wiped in there with a party of 4 lv 10s back in the n00b days if you can believe that ^^)

The actual start area of the Humans is the hardest starting area in the game, bar none, and all because of one quest - get the barrels of grapes for Millie at Northshire Abbey. There's hundreds of damned Defias all standing in that vineyard, some in pairs or even threesomes.

I dont know what you're laughing at, I still have nightmares of those Defias Pillagers, they're MONSTERS!

the worst is when one respawn behind you when your killing another one. those little level 3 heath pots only prolong your death. lol

You know, I've never been able to understand how people get themselves killed by those things. I've never aggroed one (well, except to get the Shattered Halls key ). I mean, which part of the screen shaking, the loud clanging, and the skyscraper-sized monstrosity strolling across the landscape is difficult to spot?

Defias Pillagers are usually much easier if you have a way to interrupt, but for the careless players, these guys are nasty. Now I understand why Edwin Vancleff hired them in the first place.

These Defias Pillagers are the source of all the horrors in Gold Coast Quarry. The place has a high concentration of mobs, INCLUDING the damned pillagers AND the fast respawn time, meaning at every other time, you will very likely to find one or two of these Pillagers, WITH BACKUPS spawning behind your back, which means you are dead!

After dying in that place for the fifth time, I swore to never return to that damned place again. F-you, Pillagers!

I resent that deeply. We humans are diplomats. (look at the racial)

Actually the Gold Coast Quarry was my favorite spot for the Pillagers and Looters, there's not 300 people there at the same time like in Moonbrook. I took my 28 lock there yesterday for a guildie and go oh so sweet revenge on them all. My thirst for blood is now quenched, though I'll still gank Hogger over and over again just because.

I feel the same. Have 4 characters past Hellfire and NONE of them died to a Felreaver. Yet..both of my RL friends got stomped by one when the hit Outland at 58 and did the Imp killing quest. And both also have lv 70s. (who coincidentally also died to Fel Reavers).

My son rode with me from the pools of Aggamar and was stomped by a Reaver coming around the corner. I was shouting and warning him, but his laptop was just drawing the hunk to slowly.

So that is two reasons, hehe...n00bness and slow connection...

Not when you enter the place at level 15 and you allow yourself to be seduced by the high concentration of copper and tin in there.

I'm guessing the current list will have the words 'Monstrous Kaliri' featuring somewhere near the top. Probably the only (non raid boss) mob in the game that can kill a level 70 with one hit.

Lol, well I was done with Westfall at 16, and I had no issues with my big blue buddy in tow :)

I was killed by a Fel Reaver...once. Essentially because I didn't know what that earthquake was until a big black foot, which I thought to be a spaceship, landed on me and squashed me.

I've been slaughtered by Fel Reavers twice (so far), I think it's just the speed (v. slow) at which my antique PC draws the damn things.

Fair enough, I guess antique PCs/connections explain a fair few of the deaths.

Oh, the kaliri thing made me giggle. I've never died to one, but I do hate those birds nonetheless. So much so that I moan about them constantly to my partner, and one day, when I was wanting to farm primal water and my usual spot and the plateau were both camped, I nearly refused when he tried to tell me to check out Skettis.

Begrudgingly agreeing with the logic that "there's no kaliri in the lake", though, along I went. Killed a few elementals, and then what do I come across under the water? Yup. A kaliri. Boyfriend spent a good few minutes laughing when he got back to the message "There's a kaliri IN THE F***ING LAKE."

One of the advantages of playing a Druid - can't be knocked off your mount

If you think thats bad...

I was once flying through hellfire on my way to a raid and was flying fairly low to the ground to search for herbs. Because mobs don't always draw instantly when you are flying on an epic mount, I somehow flew through an invisible fel reaver who proceeded to stun me, dismount me and slowly kill me.

That death was only topped by my death tonight, when i drowned on my way into SSC, which should be technically impossible.

I once aggroed 2 fel orcs, a boar and a Fel Reaver :)

I started with 2 fel orcs, I moved a bit back to prevent more orcs, a boar joined the party from behind me and when I tried to run away while healing myself with instants a Fel Reaver joined.

I wonder where the Son of Arugala comes in on that list for the undeads.

Probably not all that high actually since most people level in the barrens but that lvl 20+ wandering elite in the midsts of lvl 16s and 17s is just cruel. I kill him now every chance I get just because I can.
