So I'm standing in the Auction House on my Bank Char, minding my own business after listing some items.
I turn around to leave and grab some more stuff out of the Mailbox and see this:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2205/2287950439_15dca6f1e4_o.jpg

4 Warlocks, all in the same gear, just standing there... motionless.
I type in /s Can anyone else see 4 Locks here or is it a bug?
A couple of people gather around and confirm they can see them too and I'm not going mad. (Madder?)
2 or 3 seconds later they all vanish at exactly the same time. Some crazy joint-log-off.

Soon enough I forget about it and carry on with my WoW life.

About a week later (a couple of nights ago) - I'm doing the same thing.. leave the AH for Mailbox and see this:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3213/2288739532_f2c7e3873f_o.jpg
They're back! But 2 have Imps with them.
(Also, see that bar next to my mini-map with 6 icons inside it? Anyone know how the hell to remove it? It's annoying me.)
A crowd gathers and after about 2 minutes they all mount up at EXACTLY the same time and ride towards the Orgrimmar entrance/exit following EXACTLY the same path.
If I'd have been on my Paladin I'd have following them but alas, damn Bank Char.

Anyone have any idea whats going on? The precision timing involved in them all mounting up at the same time and logging off like that has me alittle baffled.

But... it's damn cool and when I next see them I shall add one to my Friends list so I can see where they go. :)

Thats plain weird...

I've never seen anything like that, maybe it's some form of protest to the upcoming 2.4 nerf.

Meh, I honestly have no idea, if they mount and log off at exactly the same time, maybe it's a kind of hack which x4s your char.

No idea mate, keep us posted.

Multi-boxing.

I think that they must have been using the same technique as this.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YEzs5AAqL68

It seems like 1 person has 4 characters and links them all to the same keyboard.
Im not sure if its against the rules, but it sure does seem pretty imba.

Apparently, it's only breaking the rules if you get a program to automate the movement/spell casting etc.

If you're doing it all by hand (and a lot of macro's it seems) then it's all fine and within the ToS.

it's related to Autioneer, I think.

Yeah, it was a multi-boxer, someone with multiple copies of the game, pays 4 subscriptions a month and at least 2 screens.
Its pretty much ok by blizz.
Heres a nice vid of a multi-boxer in action, if your interested:

What annoys me is that it would have been considered exploiting if you didn't have to pay for the extra accounts..

Not that I'd do this and I'd hate to be on the receiving end of it but I find this extremely ingenious and quite cool. Kudos to them. (btw if blizz ever came down on such actions I'd agree with it. As long as they don't have a problem with it neither do I)

Actually, multi-boxing is really quite fun and gives the gamer a very different experience. The most I have every done is three accounts. Imagine though, having 5 accounts and being able to run your own heroics. I have not done it but I think it would be awesome.

But but but, be sure you have the response time and the cunning to map controls that provides synergy and ensure fast response time on each five characters if the former is not possible.

The identically-dressed warlocks in that screenshot are wearing the helm with the swirl of darkness effect which, unless I am much mistaken, is tier gear.

I'm not sure how a multiboxer would get 4 characters geared in the same raid drops?!

Its just arena S1 gear, so pretty easy obtainable.

There was a fairly well known (back in the day) multi-boxer on EQ who was able to play two 6-character groups at the same time. He was something of a legend.

Mind you, multi-boxing in EQ was, I think, far more common than it is in WoW. It wasn't at all unusual for someone to routinely 3-box.

Wouldn't it be almost impossible to control 5 toons enough to get through an heroic? I am guessing it is more of a gimmick than actually useful...

It's pretty useful when you drop 5 grounding totems and do a 5xchain lightning ;)

Doubt it would work very well for instances tho

noh its happened.
was watching one the other day with 3 shaman, 1 warrior and a resto shaman.
he must have had 3 keyboards or something. i dunno though. it was really cool.

Multiboxing was more common in EQ, because combat in EQ was a bit more laid back/slower than WoW. It is less common in WoW, because it takes a bit more interactivity to do things in WoW. That said, it is more than possible for someone to multibox in WoW, if the person knew what to do, figured out what he/she wanted from each character, and built macros/etc accordingly. It ius a bit of an artform, and pretty ingenious. But, for the most part, it really does not provide any extreme benefits to the person (short of being his/her own partner/able to powerlevel his/her own characters, etc) -- it adds a bit of excitement, and it means the person is a bit more busy than usual.

However, I'd have to say it isn't for anyone. Getting upset because someone has the capacity to handle multiple characters is a bit over the top though. Some people are naturally predisposed to handling a lot more things at once, and find something as innocuous as playing a single character as too boring. Same kind of person would probably be seen in a classroom falling asleep, daydreaming, etc, yet still keeping complete attention on the teacher/understanding everything that is being talked about. Same kind of person is frequently misdiagnosed as AD/HD. I know, because I am one. Doing just one thing at a time gets to be a drag, I'm usually doing three, four, or more. My friends call it "sensory overload" at times though...

My initial reaction to this is... How unfair!! even though the person has paid for each subscription, and has bought the game for each account, i can see, when leveling, how much easier it would be for him to use, say, three warlocks instead of 1. add an imp, a felhunter, and a voidwalker, and you have a great combination of pets. and then i can see the benefits of having all three do a shadowbolt on a mob at once. however, they do all have to share on the experience gained, so thats a give and take right there. need a group? no problems with multiboxing!

in any case, multiboxing looks fun, but its not for me. if i wanted to play multiple characters i guess i could have just bought dungeon siege2. but thats just my opinion.

God, the trouble I would get into with 5 epiced-out locks...

I'm not so sure it's multi-boxing. Over the last few days, we've had several people in our guild report "multiples" of different toons in cities - even of people that they know and know don't have multiple toons.

Perhaps it has to do with goldsellers selling S1 gear?

Anyone know a site or a guide on this? I actually have the ability to run two accounts right now and I am lost at what macroes I need to do. I feel like I am a step off when trying to control the '2nd' account.
