Alright first I would like to say i am sorry if this is not appropriate for this forum if so Kalos give it a big delete. Heres the problem - when I try to play a video in any program VLC, WMC, WMP10, RP, DivX, YouTube all of them have a brightness issue. Unfortunately I can not take a screen cap of it atm but I will try when i am home. Basically it looks like a whiteout filter over any video i play. I am currently using a 19in widescreen LCD and a 42in widescreen HDTV on a 7800 GT. This problem just started last week after my computer restarted due to a Windows update. I updated my drivers -> Windows updated (TV stopped working on the comp) -> updated drivers again to fix the TV -> All hell breaks loose. I would say it was a driver issue but everything stopped working after it was updated and still working. No brightness changing effects seem to effect this problem either they just over saturate the picture. Thanks in advance

System specs and Windows version? Try deleting any Color Profiles that you have set up (drivers/manufacturers can create/change these sometimes). This is especially common with Vista, for example all photos can go green or yellow.

Its XP Pro - As far as i know the auto update and driver change are the only recent changes before the problem started. Since i have made sure to update divx codec, directx, drivers(video) Nvidia version 169.XX (latest for 7 series) I have not downloaded anything new that I can think of. However in ages past I had a problem with dual monitors where on one the videos were saturated with red and the other was fine. I cant seem to remember what was needed to fix that but i think it was a codec or video driver. I will roll my drivers back 1 or 2 updates (if i can find them....) and see if that will change it. Could be that with my particular video card this update has issues.
Also I do not add color profiles that I know of. I will try your suggestion when I am off work though never know maybe I forgot something I added O.o
AMD Athlon X2 3800+ (socket 939)
Asus A8N-32 SLI Delux Motherboard
Gskill 2gb Ram (unsure of rating)
Seagate Barracuda 250gb 7200.1 SATA HDD
EVGA 7800 GT 256mb PCI-E Nvidia Video Card
Cant think of anything else that would matter much. If there is something I missed let me know.

Try the driver rollback and check color profiles, and let us know.
