Stage6 Shutting Down. :-(

Anyone who is a member of Stage6 will have gotten an email a few hours ago about this and there's a press release on their homepage:

What a shame, a great website, good codec (DIVX) for our video's and some superb content.
But such sites require alot of time, effort and money to keep running so the closure is understandable.

Now we're back to the annoyingly poor quality of YouTube and Google Video.

Here's hoping Warcraftvideos survives.

Such a pity. High quality video content would have been very popular in a few year's time, just as dozens of television networks are leaping onto High Definition broadcasting. With technologies like fibre and enhanced forms of ADSL coming into play, these things would shine. Perhaps too early now for most people, but I am certain that the Divx format, being as scalable as it is, will see other sites in the future taking it up for similar purposes. This news is annoying to say the least for those of us lucky enough to be on a good internet connection to use the site, but I feel that it shall see others rise where it has fallen, in a more prosperous and ready environment.
