Those of you who are fishing, DO try to get to level 225 in it and go for the quest offered by Nat Pagle (located in a group of islands off Theramore). For one thing, it's the only way you're going to level up beyond 225. You can get it at class level 35 and it requires you to go to four different areas and return to him with four different sorts of fish. But it's fun and it's challenging and well worth doing. Two of us grouped to do it - my husband with his level 40 Paladin and me with my level 37 Hunter. We had a bit of difficulty in Feralas and Swamp of Sorrows, but persevered and got what we wanted. The areas where you actually have to fish are surprisingly calm and peaceful, so you can fish uninterrupted. The only drawback to the whole thing is that there's an awful lot of travelling about to accomplish it - that probably took more time than the actual fishing.

Fishing is the most boring profession to level but you get a lot in return in the long run - food & gold.

Luckily, you only have to lvl one character fishing to the max.

LOL.

I love fishing because I make lots money from it. However, the lvling from 250 - 300 was really really boring and hard to me. It takes 7 - 10 cast to lvl 1 point and you have to fish up certain fish for lvling cooking profession as well.

It is not like you can watch TV or surf on the internet while fishing. You have to pay attention to the sound and screen when the fish is hooked or your fish got away.

There were countless time that I fell asleep while lvling my fishing skill.

There were countless time that I fell asleep while lvling my fishing skill.Maybe that has something to do with lack of sleep in general, rather than fishing being boring.

I agree with elsegundo, fishing is a nice change of pace every now and then. I love being able to run past water and think "hmm I'm going to get me some food from that".

Yep, 3:00 or 4:00 am in the morning but I never fell asleep during BGs.

Now, I go fishing when I am waiting for instance runs or BG premades. It is nice to do some fishing after hours of grinding in BGs as well.

It is the leveling killing me...

I will only ever level the one character. I'm also levelling him up in cooking so he can feed his cat pet, the rest of the alts, and my main. He even feeds my husband's 'family' of characters. I can also send special sorts of fish to the family alchemist. I have to add, though, that I got him the 'find fish' skill in Stonetalon Mountains and that's been very helpful. It's also very worthwhile to fish patches of floating wreckage, where you find crates full of quite worthwhile items.

But yes, levelling up in fishing is a bit tedious. Only gets really interesting when I catch odd things and think 'Hmmmmmm, what on earth is that????'.

I have only 3/10 toons who taught fishing.. my ally main, my horde main, and my Draenei Huntress so she can feed her kitty. I wanted it with my mains just because I want them to explore and try out everything, and partly also because then I can fish up my own Blackmouths/Firefins/Stonescales. Of course, the extras I fish up in wreckages are a nice addition as well, even though they're not -that- great.

It really is quite boring, because all you do is stare at a bobber waiting for it to sink and yet you can't do anything else to pass time because you need to pay attention - pretty much the same reason why I dislike fishing in real life. However, it's nice to sometimes sit and fish while waiting for a spot in AB to open up, so that you'll at least feel somewhat useful.

Hm, I really should get working on levelling it up more.. both my mains are 50+ and haven't come anywhere near the quest yet.

It's... horrible. After 3 years I decided it was time. Cleverly I picked the char, where I vendored the quest fishing pole. The strong ones were 70-80g on AH. Now I'm 330 and made it to Zangarmarsh, and can almost fish something useful:)

I think I got a strong fishing pole from a vendor fairly cheaply. In any event, fishing seems to be one of those things in life (real or otherwise) that you have to work at to succeed. I find it tedious and boring too, standing endlessly waiting for that little splash to tell me I've caught something.

But..... as levels get higher, the things I catch are better in terms of restoring health or being used by the family alchemist, and hey, they're free! Don't cost a penny, and in ever-more-expensive Warcraft, that's good.

And if push comes to shove, fishing is still the best excuse to use when cheating on ur woman.

- You could fish anywhere , no questions about a trip to some romantic lake there anymore
- Theres nightfishing, comming home at 6 in the morning is not a weird thing anymore
- You could come home smelling like fish.. i dont rly have to explain that any further i think

Might not work ingame so well tho

'U were at that female hunters place WERENT U!'

'No i wus nightfishin in southshore'

'DONT LIE TO ME! your fishing skill hasent gone up a point!'

'If u dont believe me, i went thru a whole stack of nightcrawlers for bait!'

'No you didnt, its the last thing in buyback u vendored!'

The strong ones were 70-80g on AH.Strong Fishing Pole is bought at fishing supplies vendors at a limited supply for a little less than 10 silver. I believe you are talking about Big Iron Fishing Pole here.

Big Iron Fishing Pole can be farmed in Desolace right by Shadowprey Village. There are a number of shellfish traps under the water and while most of them contain ...yes, shellfish... once in a while you can get the fishing pole.

I think the shellfish are part of a Horde quest obtained on the dock by the village. I got two of the Big Iron poles in about 45 minutes of swimming around because I was feeling pretty frugal that day and didn't feel like paying the AH price.

Anyway, the fishing quest was pretty cool, Nat certainly sends you all over the place! I don't mind fishing at all, although sometimes it does get boring. I find having someone to chat with while fishing helps with the boredom and keeps me awake. I did fall asleep once though, and I actually like fishing....

The quest 'I rather be fishing' from lower city offers a green +20 pole with 45 stam. It does not take fishing to do the quest.

I got my fishing from 320ish to 370 over a weekend when I was stuck doing an online defensive driver course. Set up the defensive driving course on my work laptop next to my iMac -- 2 days later, I was nearly maxed out fishing.

Usually I enjoy guild chat when i'm fishing and I may occasionally help people in the same area if they need some assistance with quests.

Sometimes I go fishing in Terrokar (fish sticks for my priest) and farm some basilisks (for my lock) and warp beasts (for my rogue) as well .. just taking care of my food supplies every once in a while.

It's rather peaceful ;)

While I am on vacation from my main account I decided to start a mage on my second account. This account was filled with bank alts and lowbies I would let me brother's kids play when they came to visit.

The mage is going to be my taxi, food vendor (Conjured and also cooking), enchanter and tailor. The only problem is I know I have to fish with him to make some of the best foods and pet food but I just cant take it. I sit and try to level it and I get about 5 or 6 skill points and just start to lose my mind!

(Sidenote: Someone said you could power level fishing in undercity but I didnt know what they meant. Do they mean fishing in the green river?)

elsegundo

yea you can basically fish anywhere you can cast a lure. and fishing in lower level areas are fine, just as long as you know that the fish you will get will be the lower level fish. brilliant smallfish, longjaw mudsnappers, etc.

to be able to fish in higher level areas, you need higher fishing skill. but that doesnt mean you need to fish there for skillup points. you'll get the same rate of fishing skill no matter what. its based on successful catches. and whether you are in a higher level zone, or in a city, your skill leveling rate will remain the same.

with that in mind, i'd rather skill up on higher level fish for their resale and buff values instead of sitting inside undercity fishing.

Spent some time this weekend level and working on skills. The mage is about to ding 46 I got his tailoring to 265, enchanting 255, cooking 260 and fishing 198. Yup I finally did it. Sat down and did as much fishing as I could. It wasnt horrible, but man I am not gonna do this again. On a side note, I decided to travel around and level it up instead of sitting in UC. That was getting boring.

Once you get the Nat Pagle thiing, it is a bit more fun to do. Yep, you do have to stand for a while endlessly fishing some areas (I'd suggest reading up on it first so you get just the 'right' spot) but you get to see a bit more of the world and it's a change from just endlessly fishing, fishing to level up in it.

lol if you're going to fish to level up, at least fish for something that you can sell. deviate fish, oily blackmouths, firefin snappers, and stonescale eels made decent money. once you get higher leveled, go for the mightfish (not glossy mightfish), darkclaw lobsters, and sunscale salmon (not sure if its sunscale, but its a salmon). those are pretty much the only foods you can cook from 295 to 300. hint hint. sell them in stacks of 5 since people who leveled up on bear flanks cant go any further. also supply the AH with a constant supply of those recipes too. this will help you further.

As someone who is desperately scouring the AH for those items *grmbl* I can tell you that it's in fact Whitescale Salmon. But apparently, the people on my server haven't figured out the value of these items, as they never appear on my searches. Either that, or these fish are so rare to catch that the people use them to level up their own cooking..

Somehow, the idea of selling fish on the AH is something that doesn't occur to people (didn't to me, anyhow) until you get into something really worthwhile like Deviate Fish. And I found out about that purely by accident while looking up other things on the 'Net. Now I check every variety of fish I catch to see if it's valuable or not as a sales item. My primary purpose in fishing is to get things to feed the crew and pets and to supply the family Alchemist, but now that I'm saving like mad to get a mount, I'm more likely to sell than eat.

I hope you've got Auctioner installed.. with that you can see instantly what your catch is worth. Before I had it I often vendored stuff I didn't think others would want, but then I got to see the values and I realised how much gold I may have missed out on, heh.

But you're right, most catches are only good for levelling up cooking with, or feeding to your pet. I still vendor a lot of those fish, simply because otherwise I'd drown in them. And no, they don't sell on the AH.

I wouldn't be without Auctioneer, can't imagine how any player can manage without it. And the newest version is great, with the way it automatically scans the AH while you're putting items on or looking for wanted items.

Fishing was a perfect change of pace on my mage - register for next BG, port to Ogri and cast. Then fish till the next BG starts - and a lot of people who port there stop to chat to you. Sort of the anti-BG, recharges your batteries a treat :D

Mages! Don't forget the "Tome of Polymorph: Turtle" - Tome of Polymorph: Turtle.

1. You get the quest "Nat's Measuring Tape" from Zul'Gurub (20 man raid instance in STV).
2. Fish (fishing lvl 300) at least 5 Zulian Mudskunks from the Zul'Gurub river.
3. After you turn in the quest to Nat Pagle, you buy the Mudskunk Lure (Mudskunk Lure) from Nat. (This is where I am now.)
4. Group up and go back to Zul'Gurub.
5. Attach the 5 Zulian Mudskunks to the Mudskunk Lure.
6. Fish out Gahz'ranka (you have to have fishing lvl 300) and kill it.

P.S.
1. The book - "Tome of Polymorph: Turtle" is a BOE item and it is selling for 1200 - 1500 gold on my server.
2. This is repeatable so you can farm that book over and over again.
3. You have to be in a raid to be able to get in Zul'Gurub. My rogue formed a 2 men raid and got in.
4. Not sure about the Zul'Gurub door lock for other classes. My rogue opened the door, stealth in and got the quest "Nat's Measuring Tape"
5. You can 2 manned it with 70s in full T6. I am thinking of 3 - 5 70s with t4/t5 should be able to down it.

Happy fishing!

I loved the Nat Pagle quest! It was a lot of fun.

One of my best fishing times was on the dock at Steamwheedle Port in Gadgetzan. It was night and a sand storm was blowing off the water, making the sky glow.. so quiet, all you could hear was the winds and the waves. Got a few boxes as I recall.

Now I'm Outlands and I'm missing a few fish so I will be heading back there for some peaceful lvling.

And all along that shore, right up to the area where the pirates are (perhaps even past there), is marvelous for Floating Wreckage, which yields Mithril Bound Trunks and the contents are very good.
