View Full Version : One year later.... Linux support?

I had asked a year ago about Linux support, and was told it was a nay. Is there any improvement on this front now (I can't check currently, not at home)? It would be nice to be able to use this system with my Linux setup (and as I *do* have Java, I would imagine it should work).
Is there anything that may possibly cause a problem that anyone is aware of?
Mainly, I'd like to be able to upload data for WoWDigger... like my characters and stuff. But if Linux support still isn't viable, then I guess I will live without.

Hi,
We've not explicitly tested the new uploader with Linux, however as it is a Java application, one should expect that it should be possible to get it working. Especially as it works on Mac OS X.
Try http://wowdigger.com/uploader and see if you have any success.
The app is actually written using JNLP, meaning it installs itself off the Internet, auto updates itself, etc. That might require a bit of tinkering with your Java, but I'm not sure.
All I can suggest at the moment is to give it a go.
Cheers,

To use a Java WebStart app, you may need to first associate the JNLP file extension with your java webstart executable. In Firefox, when you click the link and get the Open/Save dialog, check open and browse to the location of your javaws executable. The location of the javaws varies with your Linux distribution and JRE package. In Gentoo Linux using Sun's JDK, this was simply /usr/bin/javaws
Note that when starting the application, you must choose your WoW directory. Typically, this is in the "hidden" .wine directory in your home directory. However, the application does not give an option to see "hidden" directories but you can type it in manually - usually ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/World of Warcraft
