View Full Version : Why I wont play any Free MMORPG:

I noticed that many ppl were/are looking for a free MMORPG, I should say that’s not a good
idea.

First of all, please think about it, how do these companies get profit without CDK and
Monthly fee earning etc… Of course they suck players by selling gold and over power stuff
in game shop. Players spend the money on the game points, game cash or whatever it called
The companies created the virtual items and sell out for the real life money.

"I have to face two states when I decided playing one of Free MMO RPG."

1: I absolutely hate RMT (Real Money Trade), and won’t buy any kind of virtual in-game item. However, why do these companies run free MMORPG's, there has to be a bottom line profit for them to be able to pay for the servers and man powered needed to run an MMORPG. Is it really free? Do you think these companies are like the comrade Lei Feng (Famous in my country like your Goodwill)? I highly doubt it and think they probably make more money by generating a customer base with the offer of a free game and then once you knee deep into the game the bills start pouring in. Then I probably have to spend more money on the IN GAME SHOPPING for the virtual items, cause the purpose for all of these companies is to make money and the only way to do that when they are not charging a membership fee is to sucker customers into buying their "Brand new Virtual upgrade", in this case, I wasn’t surprised by the fact that whenever I wasn’t buying their product/gold. Well my character was broke a lot.... And whoa I’m level 50! But hey, the end of the game was level 100 and I was only half way there... and that’s only beta in a real MMORPG. There’s no real end to it whether it be no level cap or new dungeons, always new content to keep my interest and new charges for them to hustle me into.

2: The worst thing about it is that even if I spent a lot of money within a few months maybe less. There’re new products they are trying to sell and the things I just spent my money on are now losing value rapidly... I mean its smart how they do it but dumb that we as customers continue to play right into their hands.

Purchasing outside help from the company which makes the game isn’t allowed due only to the fact that they want all of the cash for themselves, even though outside groups would be able to supply more gold and items at a cheaper prices.

In The End
Thank you for your reading and suffered from my poor English.

quite honestly, i think point #1 is the backbone of how free mmorpg profit making works. its not a secret. thats how they make their money. you buy directly from the game, whatever it is that makes you better. some game will only allow you to buy with real money good gear. other games have extra fun stuff that you can purchase with real money. and then some games simply charge a subscription fee.

i think if you dont like the way the free mmorpgs are set up, then play something that's subscription based.

Good read and thanks. I come from Ultima Online where I played EA servers for 6 years. I know that there are free servers out there which I never tried.

DiabloII although not an mmorpg approached it and was free. Also what about an mmo that was advertising based maybe played on Gamespy or something? I dont mind the adverts on there so much. I used to play that great wwII fps game on there all the time.

Hence why I tossed it to Off Topic, considering it has little to no useful info for WoW newbies.

other games have extra fun stuff that you can purchase with real money
Nexus War is a good example of this approach. The game itself is free, but you can donate money in exchange for 'credits'. Said credits can be spent on impressive titles, exotic clothing, unusual character descriptions and other flavourful stuff that has no direct in-game benefit.

Thats a very good way of doing it. No actual advantage. The games that the only way to advance is through money purchases is a bad idea.

hey elsegundo, I'm going to edit some COD4 and Total wars vedios on youtube, when all works done, if you wanna see it I will PM you with a link. DiabloII, a great game, specially cow grinding is really a good idea, always excite magic items. I agree with you, DiabloII is a very good free mmorpg.

Mmobear, I have trouble understanding what you are up to. To be honest, I am expecting a gold selling advert any minute now. I deleted your avatar the first time already, but I guess I should have mentioned that to you at the time, because I just had to delete it a second time.

We do not allow gold selling or links to gold selling websites on our forum. That is the reason why I deleted your avatar. Also, I would like to kindly (but firmly) request that you remove the link to your homepage in your profile, as this is a website we do not condone under any circumstances.

If the homepage remains or if your avatar is restored the next few days, you will receive a permanent ban from these forums.

Project Entropia is similar too. It's free to play and you have the option of investing real world funds. You can play without investing a single cent. However, you can also withdraw in-game funds to real world cash.

The guy who introduced me to it put nothing in, made US$100.00 in his first year of playing. It doesn't sound like much, but he has already tripled that in the first 3 months of this year as he now has the skill to farm more effectively, etc.

And when you get high level crafting and you begin to generate items worth US$20,000+ (And yes, someobdy buys that off the AH and you can withdraw those funds!) you begin to understand how a free game model with real world money attached can work.
