The other day I had a bad experience in an instance, some preist needed on some blue mail, laughed and heartstoned out of it. Instead of reporting him I tracked down his guild master and had a chat with her.
It got me thinking. There's a lot of reporting going on for bad behavior, but there's nothing to reward good players. There should be a way to report good guys. Those people who help others for self-less reasons.
I've had someone give me a free 14 slot crafted bag when I was a low level noob. That stuck with me and made me want to return the favor to others ten fold. So maybe there should be a badge/tabard/whatever to show these are good guys.
Blizzard could investigate a few of these cases, and "uppon thorough investigation" award the medal, just like they do for bad guys who get warnings. (i got a warning once for telling a rude mage to lick my nuts)

Good idea. You're far more likely to improve people's in-game behaviour by rewarding the good rather than reporting the bad. It's part of our psychology to function that way. I've encountered a number of kind, helpful people and often wished there was some way to reward them. All most of us can do now is to pass it on and be kind to others ourselves.

which is alot allready.
this is maybe taking it to a rather philosophical level, but i think that one of the biggest rewards in the game is to be able to build up a network of players you enjoy playing with. My friends list is full of people which i enjoyed grouping with, mostly for instances. people i know can do their job well, that know how to behave in loot situations, and that are nice folks which i know i will have a good time with.
WHen i meet a new player who is realy a nice guy, i put him on my friend list. From now on he will get a nice whisper everytime i see him online, and a invitation to a party every time i need someone of his class for any instance which is approximatly his level/equip range. I think that is a reward in itself.

I like the idea - and it's already in practice.
To report someone for being good, you type /friend <name> :)
The 'reward' for building a solid /friend base is never having to pug again. Your idea of 'pugging' becomes going down your list of 50 friends, seeing who is online - seeing which of them aren't in an instance - and asking them if they wanna group with you.
I don't need a metal to know I'm damn good, and you shouldn't either!

a player who is mature enough to play nicely probably will not want a medal, but i fully understand your sentiments. I am now a guild master of a small guild and use promotion and perks to keep them playing nicely when necessary.
And i know where you are coming from on the loot stealers.
I would like to see a new loot option for need & Greed that allows the party leader to veto a need roll.

Being nice to your friends isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about self-less acts. Helping people that can't help you. Like crafting something for a lowbe. Or taking the time to show a noob around Storm Wind and teaching him how to use the flight paths and stuff.
The good guy most likely won't want a medal. They do it for nothing right now. I just think it would be cool to make examples of them so others can aspire to that level of going above and beyond.
The only downside is that if moochers can tell who these people are then they might get harassed or solicited more.

Was that priest an enchanter tried to DE it so you guys can roll the shard? Was that item BOE? Was it a mistake that priest pressed a wrong button? I pressed the wrong button a couple of times.
Ask before you HS?

It wasn't me who stoned! It was the priest!
Yes he was an enchanter. He needed after the shammie needed on it because he could actually use it.
We asked him to shard it and give it to the shammie if indeed it was a mistake. Instead of doing so, he laughed and stoned home. The item was BOP.

You can report people for needing on things they don't actually need?
I've never heard of this being done in almost 2 years of play . . . interesting.

there's need before greed. which basically states that if you cant use the item, you automatically pass on it.
and then there's master looter. so... two different options there that may deter ninjas.
i've used need before greed before and it doesnt work too well, as there are times where i couldnt roll on the items that the others didnt need but were able to roll on.

When my guild plays everyone greeds everything, unless they ask first. I was thinking that maybe a option could flick up on the Party leaders screen that allows them to force a need to a greed so thing like this can't happen.
This way everyone can roll on everything if they choose to do so and the Party leader doesn't get weighed down with loot.
