View Full Version : Leveling up SUCKS!

WOW is basicly based on leveling, wich i feel is a bad idea.
I have two charecters in WOW My official charester is a 18 level Orc Shaman, while my "unofficial" charecters is a 22 level human mage:cool:
My mage easily makes 1 gold a day in a couple of ours. Currently she resides in Redridge Mountains. The point is, she can make money like "hell" but she can't level up. Well actually she can, but it's HARD! I won't learn any new usefull spelss untill i'm 24:cry:
The point is, in real life you sell, if a person has the money! You don't ask questions like;"are you up to this? Is this your true level?"
Only in WOW! Now there are people who say, that if it wasn't so, this would greatly benefit those players who have the hardware and time to either grind or simply buy them more money.
But you can already TODAY buy yourself 70-levl charecters from Ebai or somewhere else! So, this logic simply doesen't hold water!
More ephmasis should be given on talent points, but ultimately if i have cash(gold)then i should be allowed to learn a new spell! If my 22 level mage has forexample 3 gold, then that should buy her some 24 spelss. And that's IT! No BUTS! Of course there are spelss she can't get without talent points like the Pyroblast, wich in my view is a good idea. However, if i have the gold, then they SHOULD teach me! This "grinding" is the thing, wich makes WOW so consuming! Without it, leveling up would be far more easier and meaningful! Forexample if a new, more powerfull staff sold on Stormwinds mage district costs 1.5 gold and i have it, then i should have the wand or spell! NO BUTS:banghead:!

Only in WOW!
Actually not true at all. In real life you have to level up all the time. I don't take advice from a level 1 doctor, I take advice from a level 70 doctor. In the corporate world you "have to pay your dues", "move up the ranks". In real life experience usually trumps talent.
Stormwinds mage district costs 1.5 gold and i have it, then i should have the wand or spell! NO BUTS
If a millionnaire 14 year old wants to drive a car he/she can't because she is not high enough level.
So, yeah LEVELING UP SUCKS!! But welcome to the real world!

I’m not sure how your “system” will be implemented either. Most of us make +- 100g per hour on our level 70 characters. Does that mean that we can create a new character and just buy everything for them? We would have a HUGE advantage over any new players (uhm… much bigger than we have now :D)
There is nothing wrong with thinking that levelling up sucks… but I do think that this might not be the game for you.
I believe that shooting a gun in a game sucks. That is why I generally stay away from first person shooter games – I don’t go to Crysis’ website telling them that “shooting sucks!” :)

What I think is funny is that WoW has the easiest leveling system of any MMO i've ever seen and you are complaining about it.
You have no freaking idea what a real grind is.

WoW has always been amazingly painless for levelling. Recently, they made it even easier.
Levelling up is an opportunity for you to learn to play the game, as you're lead by the hand through the mechanics of the game and your particular class. The lesson that you seem to need to learn right now is to stop grinding mindlessly and do some quests. A little brainpower and organisation behind the problem, and you'll be gaining several levels a day while you're that low, without huge effort.
You don't seem to understand the whys and wherefores of the game at all. Maybe give it one more go, and if you can't figure it out, CSS or a Madden game might be more up your street. I hear that Halo 3 on XBox live is very popular, too.

Leveling in wow can be a lot of things but I've never thought of it as being hard. With the new changes made, leveling is crazy fast IMHO.
In the time it's taking you to make your 1 gold a day you should be easily leveling either of your toons.

Since when is 1G in a couple hours work "making money like hell?"
I can spend 5min and get 11g.
I can easily have 100G by level 40 while buying greens and blues off the AH while leveling. Making money is easy. Leveling is easy. You can level doing nothing but quests and guess what? You will still have probably an entire zone left to quest in by the time you hit 70. Which is mucho bucks because you will get 8 -16g per quest, not counting gear which usually vendors for 1-6 gold. These are easy quests too - 5 min variety.

Aye, jschild makes a good point. I tend to clear every quest in a zone while levelling, and typically have BEM and Netherstorm left untouched (and a good chunk of quests in SMV) when hitting 70. These are easy money, as once you can fly, things become a lot simpler.
Heck, the money from questing and selling drops you don't need while levelling should see you with more than 1k in the bank by 70, if you don't blow your money on silly things constantly. It's not worth spending too much on your gear while levelling, anyway, as it gets replaced so quickly, plus the levelling content really isn't that hard- crummy gear is usually plenty to let you rip through it.

Dude
You shoulda played my last game
level 70 took about 5000 mob kills to ding. Something like 11,000,000 experience. 68, 69 and 70 would take a week and a half each of grinding mobs daily
Leveling in WoW is nothing compared. Its more like an introduction to the game and teach you how classes work

I love this guy and how he is very lazy. try playing other games, like silkroad online. it would take a year to level to lvl 100 and then you found out that you ruinged your character by not farming skill points and had to make another character that took 1.5 years to get to lvl 100. world of warcraft is very easy to level. Suck it up and please have better spelling next time, your post was horribel to read.

lol.
wow has one of the easiest leveling up system i've ever come across. it rewards us greatly for leveling up, though its not entirely easy. leveling up each level is somewhat the same whether you're a level 10 or if you're a level 40, or 60, or whatnot. there are some poorly designed games out there where you start off fast, yet end up taking a lot longer to level up later in the game. some games do that in order to keep people from reaching the invisible level cap, or due to lack of ingame content. i see wow as a game with lots of endgame content, and i believe getting rep, doing instances, and arenas are all part of the endgame experience. 1-70 is truly only the first half of the game.
if you're stuck at level 21, then i suggest you learn how to use your mage, learn where to put your talent points, and learn what gear to get. its not all about weapons. no really, its not that hard when i was level 21, even with a level 20 staff. i didnt need a high level staff to get through those levels. i think this is what you're trying to advocate and i dont think it really helps a player at all. if this was the case, then a lot of twinks would have much, much better gear. im glad for level limits on gear.

Warning...This only applies to casters. Warriors, Paladins, Rogues, etc, all suck with sucky weapons and the best possible weapon you can get should always be a priority, within reason. But yes, you could level probably in nothing but greys and whites and be successful.

One of my favorite things about WoW is the leveling. I derive quite a bit of pleasure from spending time leveling up my alts... consequently, I also tend to get bored at level 70 a lot.

True that. I buy gear, potions (healing, swim speed, swiftness) like a mofo, and I still have over 300g at level 38 (and this is my main since my level 70 is not on this server.) It is NOT hard to make gold in WoW, and if I were only able to farm 1g per day I would probably quit the game. It would suck to be broke. :P

Same here. It's quite a double-edged sword. You work so hard to reach 70 and then spend a lot of time being bored.

WOW is basicly based on leveling.
Not true. You'll spend a lot more time being lvl70 than levelling.
* For me, levelling is "the good old days"
You don't need anyone to do it. You don't need any special gear to level. From 2.3 on levelling is even faster and easier so you can do more green and yellow quests and not orange/red ones.
* While being lvl70 can be a chore. You want good items - you need teams for 5-man instances, you need SO MUCH organisation for 10-25 man instances, you'll be looking for hours to get a PuG for almost any instance ..
and then after an hour you have a team .. and then suddenly your tanks leaves! ..
Levelling was nice, Being lvl70 can be extremely frustrating.
I have a 70 lock/rogue/priest and it was no problem at all.

It's part of the job as a Moderator. Sometimes folks get a little too snippy for their own good. Tends to be beneficial to remind them not to throw stones when they're living in glass houses.
And if it turns out that it's not helping, well might as well smash the house flat with the bakka hammer.
:evil2:
The OP has a lv 18 and a lv 24 and complains?
News flash....you haven't even started to experience what sucks. Levelling is gravy compared to great things like "grinding rep, grinding more rep and grinding your epic mount gold" Or wiping on Kael for 3 weeks. Or...or....or...
That said....you must have an attention span of a fly, seeing that you can reach lv 18 in something like 12 hours played. And you cannot level after 22 because you only get a good spell at 24?
I recommend a different game, because sure as hell, several million players have no problem levelling past 22 ^^
And you have to be a dick why?

back on topic...
why is it bad to buy higher level skills when you're considered lower level for that skill? you'll see people 1-shotting mobs and getting experience for it. you'll see people solo-ing instances. you'll see people level up to 70 so quick, it will make athene and all the other leveling experts want to break your record. sure, with money, you can have level 70 skills at level 1. imo, this will ruin the game. this game is great because it doesnt let you do that. there is no cheat code for this game either. and i like it that way. sure, it takes some getting used to coming from a singleplayer console type background, where everything can be tried over and over again until you pass, dying requires a restart of the level or checkpoint, and passing the game is as easy as pressing pause and tapping a few buttons in some silly pattern, then seeing the "cheat enabled" on screen. if this is what you're looking for, WoW is not for you.
and no, you are not making gold like hell. at your level i think i had between 50-100 gold. im at level 61 and im a grand away from an epic mount. i would have had more if i didnt spend so much time leveling up leatherworking, engineering, and tailoring on some of my alts.

Same thing in WoW. It's called the GY.
Wow doesn't even penalize you for dying. There's not xp loss (where losing 10% means losing hours of work). There's no naked corpse run from your bind point which might be an hour away from where you died (not to mention no flight points, mounts or easy modes of travel).

Well my mage is now 25, soon 26
Ironicly i discovered, that my main problem was NOT my low level, but the lack of talent! I should put more talents in to the firethree. I didn't know, that i need atleast 10 talentspoints in the fire three to get the Pyroblast. They wont' sell it to me for money:shocked:?
I also need other points, but basicly there all in the fire three. I didn't know how the talent system worked, so i endet up wasting my talents on Arcane missiles:embarassed: Now i have to wait to about level 30 to get the talent points i want. Then i should be strong enough to grind some DEMONS:evil2:!

It may have already been mentioned but you can respec your talents at any time, it just takes a little gold. The first time is 1G then 5G then 10G...
You can do this at your class trainer. Once you respec make sure to visit the trainer again to make sure you didn't open up new learnable skills based on your new talent spec.
elsegundo
24-03-2008, 06:27 PM
since you already make gold like hell, why dont you go to your mage trainer and unlearn your talents? you wont have to wait to level 30, you just get your talents reset.
