Hey there.

Well, it looks like I could no longer resist the urge to play WoW. I recently got a new computer that could handle it, so here I am. I have played and loved my fair share of table top RPGs, but I don't know anyone that's into that kind of thing these days, so a MMORPG seemed like a great idea, but I wanted some good role playing, not ppl talking about crap in their boring daily lives, which was my experience with Final Fantasy online years back.

So, I read up a little and decided to sign up in Moon Guard. I love my character, but I'm afraid I may have made a poor choice for role playing. I wanted to be a warlock, but I couldn't choose Blood Elf as I don't have the expansion yet. Humans seemed too bland, so I cooked up a backstory for an undead character. Now, however, I'm afraid playing as undead, or even Horde for that matter is going to limit my role playing alot. I didn't realize I couldn't communicate with other factions....

So, is it a poor choice for role playing? His name is Xarial and he's partially amnesic and in shock from just waking up. He just remembers that name, and his one true love. He seems to remember being human, maybe....I want him to be this kind of emo character stuck on this chick that may or may not even still be alive. I think I want there to be some kind of Lich manipulation to cause his death, not sure, still working out the details of the true backstory. He doesn't care anything about the Lich King or undead society or the horde, he just wants to see this chick again, but now he's a fracking corpse. He realizes he can summon demons somehow, so turns to them for companionship because the human world he was once part of is now lost to him forever.

See....I like the idea of this guy, but I'm not sure if that faction or race is good for RPGing. Any suggestions? Thanks and hi!

If you're playing to Roleplay then you definitely will want to join a guild that is built for Roleplaying. I suggest you go to one of the major cities and ask if any roleplaying guilds are recruiting - if they aren't they you might want to start your own.

I also reccomend using Guild Portal (http://www.guildportal.comSearch.aspx?Server=945) to search for guilds - from what I can tell Banners of the Storm looks like the most popular Roleplaying guild on the server (They are an Alliance guild though).

You are completely unable to talk with humans - so that may limit your roleplaying a bit.

You may want to change your character a bit if you wish to communicate with humans. Maybe you could start a gnome character with essentially the same amnesic background except instead of being a corpse he was tranformed into a gnome by a witch. However, the spell had side-effects...specifically that he can now use black magic...

Anyways, that my 2 cents :)

While i don't play on a rp server (hard as it may be believe that Clarimonde's momma doesn't... <Who's Clarimonde, you ask? Check out the fan fiction on these forums!>) I do wholeheartedly believe that any character can have an engaging story behind it. One of the weird things about Wow (and no, it makes no sense to me) is that the forsaken do not speak common. They died and somehow miraculously learned.... gutterspeak, whatever that is.

I don't know. But I don't feel your character's horde affililation would get in the way of RP. My main is horde, and the horde has a lore rich storyline.

Check the official forums in your realm for a good RP guild. Most of the time you can find posts there from guilds that are recruiting and what their rules are with regard to RP and immersion.

edit: in fact, I went ahead and got the thread your looking for... http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=106616761&sid=1

OOC: Hello! i just noticed your post, and wanted to reply. Yes it can be hard to cross faction role-play, however on the Cheshire Cats website located here= http://thecheshirecats.com we have an open RP forum for all races, servers, factions and it has a tips area for how to role-play cross faction!

The Cheshire cats don't like restrictions, and we try our best to get around any limitations Blizzard has placed on us with our imaginations. Don't be shy to come check us out.
