We're having problems picking up infernals. The carrion swarm is also very brutal.
We've looked at maps, read tips and still 70% is our best attempt (we've only tried him 3 times).
Any tips or tricks you folks might have would be appreciated.

misdirection on the infernals.
all ranged stay out of carrion swarm range and only focus on the infernals.
healers spread out big style, so that never more than 1 or 2 are affected by the debuff. Form a big circle around anetheron.
then it s just tank & spank. we never did anything more special i think.

HA! I get it now, its about moving your range out of the swarm area. So you rnot trying to heal 20 people.
Then healers spread all around, we did that but not as well.

Yup. By and large it's about positioning.
Make sure at least your Infernal Tank healers are well out of range of the Carrion Swarm.
We have ranged switch from Infernal to Boss and back.
If someone gets an infernal, they need to run like heck and try to stay alive. E.g. Evasion / Shield / Bearform etc etc.
Misdirection is very nice, but we generally don't bring more than one hunter (if that) and the CDs don't match. So... don't become reliant on those.

well, our raid had the ranged DD's and the healers for the ranged DD's behind the infernal tank spot, basicly next to Jaina, so they would surely not be hit by the AoE.
and everyone else realy in a circle around anetheron. use the full 360 degree, so that at the minimum people is affected by the aoe.

Hehe I was waiting for these threads to appear.
If your healers are on the ball and everyone spreads out big time, I don't see why you wouldn't want your ranged DD pew pewing Anetheron as well, and switching to the infernal when it spawns. You might lose 1-2 people to the swarm but that's not a big deal if the boss dies a lot quicker. Like twoflower said, you can spread out more than what that pic suggests. As long as the person runs towards the infernal tank spot when Anetheron starts casting the infernals should be np. Also have atleast your healers equip their BT neck.

Oh.
One good reason to have your ranged swap from boss to infernal and back is that Anetheron has a 10 minute enrage timer.

we have ranged sitting on that hill south of the spot marked for infernal tank
but I tend to only know the spriest perspective of a fight, and for this one its
"the boss is over there, I can sort of see it, and hunters are MDing infernals to me which are the only things I get to kill"
and then when the fight is over
"WHERES MY DAMN BELT?!?"

We have the ranged switch to infernals when they spawn. Just make sure healers are properly spread and that ranged dps don't stand between two healers and give both carrion swarm if targetted.
Making Night's end with your first hearts and handing them out to healers might be a good idea. You'll want that for Kazrogal and Azgalor anyway. Use the BT neck as well and you'll have 165 SR (enchant and priest buff included) at minimal loss of stats on your healers.
As for the infernals people really just have to pay attention. That goes for the people around the person that gets the infernal as well so they don't eat the stun and damage when it spawns. Make sure the infernal is tanked out of range of the aura..

The worst of the infernals is their 1800 dps fire aura. People targeted have to run into the open. But this is just a little exercise in the encounters to come.
A paladin taunt can help the tank if required.
Even so, swarm + infernal tick + glass cannon = dead player.

as your group gets better, the ranged will start timing in a few attacks once infernals are dead, but for now.. keep them out of carrion range, typically around jaina.
Also important to note that the infernals are not tauntable (last I checked) and that carrion swarm can be resisted with shadow resist gear.

Are you saying that ranged casters/hunters etc can stand over by jaina or up by the gate and avoid the swarm?

We had a few mages that actually accomplished this last night and could do this while they were dps'ing the boss. When it was time to take an infernal down they might take the swarm but it cut down on their damage taken at least some.
We downed him on the 2nd try last night and the 7th try overall. Once we figured out how to handle the elementals it was pretty easy. 8 healers instead of 7 really helped as well.
Thanks for the tips guys now on to the next boss....
btw i picked up the trash healing boots finally and a lionseye that I had turned into a quick lionseye woot.
