Okay, so I'm not an RP'er… really. Never have been, either. But there is something about it that does appeal to me, because I like history and I like a good story. I realize WoW has set aside specific realms for RP play and other realms are for whatever. That doesn't mean RP is banned from those servers. As far as I am concerned if someone wants to RP on a PvP server, he can do that. Am I right or wrong here? But I'm telling you, a lot of the kids who play this game are (1) retarded and (2) quite rude. I also don't know if begging is against the rules, but I don't believe it is. I tried regular begging and had a few people feel sorry for me and grace me with their gold - to the tune of 37g in a matter of a few minutes in UC, but I really have a hard time doing that. Especially since I have denied quite a few beggars in my time on WoW and loathed them for doing what they do.

So anyway, to make a long story short I decided to get creative. I created a level 1 Undead and came up with a back story for how he became an Undead. Since macros can only contain up to 255 characters each I had to create 11 different macros just to fit my story, and I created a "/bow" macro, some pretty elaborate "thank you" and "thanks anyways" macros, etc. So here's what I do: I approach someone and use Macro #1, which is a very short introduction. It says something along the lines of "Greetings! May I take a moment of your time to tell you my story?" THIS is the point at which someone has the option to say either YES or NO. So if they say yes and they think my story is stupid, that I should find an RP server, etc, I remind them they had an option to say no. I then put them on /ignore (because they usually get really rude, really fast) and move on.

This game definitely has a way of bringing out an individual's true colors … which he/she may be hiding in their real lives behind a false persona.

I created this alt specifically as an alternative means of making gold, and having a different kind of fun at the same time. The back story was my little introduction into the RP world and I've discovered that I enjoy it. Some people do not and they resort to name-calling, etc. L:ike I said, I ignore them because it's just not worth it. I'm an adult playing a video game for fun. It's a nice little escape from the real world for a while and gives my wife time to watch TV shows that I absolutely hate and refuse to watch. It works out well for both of us. But what trips me out is the rudeness of the children in this game, saying things like "get a life, kid," "find an rp server, l0s3r," etc. Well, it is a Role-Playing Game afterall, so it's horribly obvious how lost that fact is on soooo many people. Children, mainly, it seems.

So let me go ahead and tell you about my story. Please, any RP'ers out there, tell me anything that might be wrong with my story and how I could fix it. I am seriously considering using this same back story and starting a character on an RP server just for kicks. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun for those days when I'm simply bored with WoW and looking for a new experience within the game. A temporary change of pace, just like how some days on my daily commute I will drive the freeway loop around the city rather than driving the inner-city freeway, just for a change of pace and scenery! So here's the gist of my story (don't forget to offer suggestions, corrections, etc.)

(edit: just FYI my story is similar to this one: http://www.worldofwar.net/forums/showthread.php?t=411627 and I realize that. His story was my inspiration. I hope I did it some justice but I tried very hard not to totally copy his story.)

I was a mighty Blood Elf, a wealthy man and a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. I fell in love with a beautiful Night Elf woman and it was a forbidden love. I even gave her a name: Adelade. I don't know, it just sounded good at the time and came right out as I was typing. The forces of the Alliance wanted to kill me in order to drive us apart, and they succeeded.

I soon awoke to find myself reborn as an Undead in a new place called Deathknell, and my love was nowhere to be found. Now I had to start over, and I am a poor beggar, a pile of bones, and my only friend is the cockroach vendor in Undercity. He was kind enough to give me a free cockroach to keep me company, but I can't even afford to feed it.

I then kindly ask for a small donation to help me get back on my feet so that I might again someday be a powerful protector of the Horde and I will return the kind favor in any way possible.

So for my first attempt, how did I do? Knowing not much about the lore of the game, did I do okay with the forbidden blood elf/night elf love? The rebirth as an undead? I have no idea, but on my server 99.999999999% of the people would never know the difference. Those who opt to hear my story generally leave me a small tip and tell me it's a great story. Then there are those who call me a loser, tell me to die, report me for spamming, etc. I laugh at this group of people and /ignore them immediately. BUT anyway, if I ever go to an RP server, I want my story to be as believable as possible.

Oh and for those who hate beggars, please remember that I am extremely kind and well-mannered and not at all pushy. I only ask at the end of my story and people can choose to do it or not. If someone says "sorry, no" I then use my macro that says "Thank you anyway, friend. Dark Lady watch over you." I have no idea what that means, but I got it from the Undead NPCs in the game and I use it. How could I fix that if it's all messed up?

Thanks for your time, guys & gals!

If you want to be absolutely true to lore...
1. The Forsaken are not merely raised undead. A very specific set of circumstances created them. They were alive six years prior to WoW in the area then named Lordaeron, called in game as the zones of Silverpine, Tirisfal, Eastern and Western Plaguelands. They were exposed to the Plague of Undeath, which "kills" those infected, causing them to rise as mindless undead, puppets of the Lich King. The Lich King lost a great deal of his power to an outside attack, and thus lost control of some of these undead...who regained their free will and fragmentary memories of their lives before.

2. While the night elves are particularly xenophobic, there would little "forbidden" about a love between one of them and the still alliance based high elves. The blood elves are a political schism branching from the high elves, but are still the same race, and this break is very recent.

Those are the points that someone knowledgeable in canon will find fault with. Of course, your high elf could have been in Lordaeron during the outbreak of the Plague... Quel'Thalas borders Lordaeron. And there are a multitude of other reasons why, other than race, your character was found lacking as a suitor.

Absolutely! Thank you ... these are exactly the kind of comments I was looking for. I can work this into my back story. On my current server, for my beggar, I won't bother since 99.9999999% of the people will have no idea. But when I do create a true RP persona, I want to be as true to the lore as I can be.
