Ok so i plan on getting wow in a few months and so I was wondering I have narrowed my choice down to two characters Gnome Mage or a Human Rogue. So I was wondering because I want to read up on some tactics for them before I get the game which one I should choose? I mean which is the best for a beginner. I will play either style so I cant decide and was wondering if anyone could help me decide. And I dont really want to have 2 accounts. I also would like to do pvp raids and pve and stuff so ya Thanks ahead of time.

you dont need two accounts. you can make 10 characters per realm. you can make 50 characters total per account. 50 friggin characters!!! thats a lot.
anyway, do you like to shoot things from far away or get up close and whack away? thats basically the main difference between the two. theres a lot more, but in the case that you dont know much about wow.... i'd say, try the rogue first.

Get one account. Roll one of each. Play them both until you decide which you like better. Problem solved.

I went with the Rogue. I think it is a great PVP Player. You can also do PVE if your guild doesn't have a lot of them.

IMO I'd pick a mage.
Rogues are GREAT for PvP and PvE! BUT, for a newbie, it's really hard to master the rogue's skills.

i thought rogues required no skill to play...
or was that because people kept saying they were overpowered, imbalanced, and all you needed to know how to do was press two buttons? in any case, i dont think there's that big of a learning curve when playing a rogue or any other class. its really all about preference in playstyle.

People say Rogues don't take skill to play because they get owned by them. They actually do take skill to play, the only problem is that people do not know how to take a rogue down or just can't.

For tactics I have found the class forums here to be the best, for either asking questions or reading the replies that have been given to the questions already there. The guides section also helps as it details how to build your characters talents to play that character in the style you want.
I have 7 of the classes including mage (63) and rogue (58). Tactics vary with the talents you choose for character. Honestly the style of play, the talents you choose will decide your tactics. (for example my mage is almost pure fire talents.. good for dps and taking on one or two or maybe three.. but a frost mage can take on many more and survive where I would die.) I repeat, the guides here, and the talents you choose determine the tactics
As for which is better, that's personal preference. If you are interested in pvp.. my opinon would be that a rogue would be more suited for it. as vanish is a great skill if in trouble.
In fairness, I will state I do not consider myself a expert with any of the classes. There is always something more to learn. That is why I check these forums out almost daily.
