View Full Version : Bowing completely out of PVP

I'm not sue if this is possible, but there's one thing that really irks me.

I don't like doing PVP. Never have in any of the games I've played...so i keep PVP turned off and that's great for the most part. However, if I go to some locations I get attacked by NPCs (example, Deathguards in Tarren Mill) and PVP gets turned on automatically.

The first time this happened, I didn't notice and headed to South Shore, only to be attacked and killed repeatedly by Horde players in the area. Since I didn't know how PVP got turned on, I just hid and turned it off and waited the 5 minutes until I was safe again. The second time it happened, there were high level Horde players camped around the area and as soon as the Deathguards attacked me, they finished the job and then camped around my body so i could not safely resurrect.

My suggestion: Have a checkbox in the settings that turns off PVP entirely, and turning it on has a long cooldown. Basically, make it so that people who don't want to PVP never are forced to.

Just an FYI - you can wait PvP off in ghost form. :)

Also, don't you only get flagged if you actually hit one of the guards? It seems weird that *they* would flag you by attacking you.

But I'm not sure - I travel with PvP on.

If you have some sort if damage shield up (Thorns, Fire Shield, Lightning Shield, ...) the damage returned to the guard might be enough to flag you. Not quite sure though, as my druid nearly always has thorns up and in the few times i've been attacked by a guard, i don't remember getting flagged.

so a suggestion would be to have a PvP server, a Normal server, and a PvE only server. sounds very interesting.

my solution would be to just join a PvP server and be done with it, at least there, no one's trying to flag others with game mechanics. cut to the chase, and kill everything that's red.

*gives OP a juice box and wraps him in a blankie*

It'll be ok mate, the bad man is gone :p.

But seriously, I get a bit peeved getting ganked sometimes. You're trying to level and some +50 has decided to make you his personal *****. There are a few solutions to this niggling problem:

A. PvE servers (mostly safe)
B. Logging on a different toon.
C. Escape. Theres no such thing as being so camped you can't escape. Use the terrain, use common sense, and in extreme cases, use your hearth. Perhaps you die once or twice more (very rarely!). I've escaped 70s on epic flyers before. Just use common sense.
D. Log on your 70 and hurt him a lot.
E. Kite him into town guards and laugh at his misfortune.
F. Jump off a huge cliff (paladin edition). If he follows he dies.
G. Complain on the forums that we need a completely pvp free server because you can't handle being killed in a virtual world*

* Recommended!

I mean, honest, it's a game. Everyone gets a bit stirred up being ganked. Esp multi ganked, reowned, whatever. Avoid ganking hotspots where possible (STV, Ganksbrad, etc). Roll on a server where your faction greatly outnumbers the other.

It is an interesting attitude. You play a massively multiplayer game, yet expect to have this divine right to be unmolested on a server with 6000 other people. Theres lots of single player games out there, that is generally accepted as what they are for. To completely expect for other players to have no ability to affect your game is a bit asinine to be honest.

Just my view, take it how you will.

If you are on a PvE server there is no way to get flagged without attacking (Yes that includes damage shields). If you are running close enough to the guards to get attacked then run away and dont have a damage shield running. I mean its not that hard.

I am not a big PvPer but I understand the lore. With what you are asking for I should be able to toggle off the PvP completely and then take my Orc Shaman for a nice walk through the alliance towns with no one to stop me. That maybe exactly what you want, but I know far too many tools that would take advantage of that and grief players with that.

Its a game, other people play it. Some time you win sometimes you dont.
