View Full Version : Survey & Research Thread
We regularly get requests to recruit members to participate in research for university courses or general surveys and rather than have rule forbidding them we feel a happy compromise would be to create a thread in which to post your requests. This way they don't overrun the forums but members interested in taking part know where to find the latest opportunities to get involved.
This thread is for surveys and research relevant to MMOs/RPGs or gaming in general. Do not post if you are wishing to sell something to participants. I check all surveys for any funny business
Thanks
Elly

EDIT - I will recreate this thread when it gets too long so it never goes past one page of posts, so your post will always be on the first page.

This is an open call for participants for an academic survey on skill acquisition in World of Warcraft.
We are searching for World of Warcraft players of all levels to take a 15-20 minute online survey, to help with our research project on transfer of knowledge (specifically skills) within digital environments. This research is a part of our Research Master’s research project at Utrecht University, Netherlands within the Media & Performance studies programme.
Being gamers before we were students, we were naturally, very interested in bringing together our love of MMORPGs (ranging from World of Warcraft itself to a variety of other text-based and graphic-based MMORPGs) into the classroom, and thus, resulted in the creation of this research project, of which more details can be read on the Web site.
If you would be able to take the survey (http://vw-researchproject.110mb.com), we would greatly appreciate it.
If you have any questions about this project or the survey, please e-mail us at : vw.researchproject[ΑΤ]gmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
The VW Research Project Team

Hello fellow gamers, we are a group of addicted WoW players who would like to develop a new tool that will help us all communicate while playing WoW....
I would reeeaallly appreciate if you can answer a few question that will allow us to know exactly what will be the most needed tool for WoW among the options we've thought about...
So here's the link to the Survey:

I'm aware of the Research Sticky Thread, however as the moderators haven't kept it at a one page size (as indicated it would be in the sticky thread post), I have posted here instead, so that it won't get overlooked in the clutter.
Thanks for understanding.

Hi,
As a part of my degree in Business Administration and Computer Science at Copenhagen Business School in Denmark, I'm currently writing a thesis on perceived value and motivations to play massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs). In that connection I'm conducting a survey targeted at existing gamers, in which I hope for as many as possible to participate.
The questionnaire takes about 2 minutes to complete, is completely anonymous and the answers provided will be used solely for scientific uses.
As I am well aware that your time is valuable, I'll throw in a 20$ iTunes gift certifcate to a randomly selected respondent.
The questionnaire can be found at this link:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=hKQeutgLkXErnl_2bDPjymuQ_3d_3d
I'm writing the thesis in collaboration with an Danish indie MMORPG development company currently developing a sophisticated new MMORPG. Thus your support will provide valuable knowledge usable in their game design and development. Furthermore I hope that this research can be a contribution to the very limited amount of academic research currently done in the MMORPG field. In other words your help will be greatly appeciated.
Thanks you for your time.
Best Regards

Thanks for understanding. With all due respect, you are not above the rules. The fact that you willingly broke them just because you feel you are somehow entitled to your own research thread because the official one is crowdy, made me want to delete your post altogether. You are perfectly free to contact one of the admins or moderators to request a clean-up of the thread, which would have been the correct course of action.
That said, you did bring up a good point that we have been slacking a bit in keeping this thread tidy. I'm in a good mood as well, so I decided to just merge your thread into this one so that the survey can still take place. I also did a bit of spring (summer) cleaning and only kept the survey requests of the last two months active. But next time, please be so considerate to notify us, rather than making up your own exception to the rule. We would be very happy to oblige.
Thanks for understanding.

Hi, I'm in a class on Popular Culture at Portland State University. We are studying WoW as an aspect of popular culture, so I was hoping someone could answer the five questions posted below. The more thorough the answer, the better, but anything is fine. If you want to privately message me your answers, that's fine. I appreciate any time you put into this.
If you're feeling especially generous, you can post a video of yourself answering these questions on YouTube or something similar, and send me the link. But i'm not expecting that.
Please answer in as much detail as possible:
1.) How long have you been playing WoW, and what got you interested in it?
2.) How frequently do you play WoW?
3.) Has if affected any of your relationships, and if so, how?
4.) Can you describe your character?
5.) What do you like best about WoW fandom? (ex.: merchandise, forums, character formation, land parties, meeting new people, something else?)
Thank you!

I am currently conducting a survey to attempt to determine whether a person's personality has an impact on their chosen avatar in World of Warcraft. The survey is located here. (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=EXDpAPjXnowi8Sx1KSETeg_3d_3d) There are only four questions, and it will only take 3 minutes tops. Thank you!

Hi guys,
I'm currently a graduate student at the University of Technology, Sydney. I'm looking to conduct a survey on the cultural and community aspect of World of Warcraft. It can be completely anonymous (just put N/A in the "name" section if you want), and due to ethical requirements participants will have to be 18+. The focus group has told me that, on average, it takes about 15 - 20 minutes to complete, depending on how descriptive you decide to answer.
So, please educate me, and click on this, here, link: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dHpFc0VzWFB3MlJsRXZ1eGV3RFhwZ3c6MA
TIA.
P.S. Am I allowed to participate in other threads to mine information?

Yes! Another survey.... I am writing my Bachelor-Thesis at the Hochschule Bremen in Germany and I chose the topic MMORPGs, especially World of Warcraft. I played at least 4 years. From Beta to February 2009, so the topic was easy to choose. I had my own experiences with playing too much, but I could stop it myself 2 years ago.
So I am interested in your experiences, playtime and several other things. Altogether the survey has 30 question, but you can answer it in 10 minutes or maybe less. It is completely anonymous. I don't wanna have any Email addresses, names or anything else. I could present the result in this forum if people would like to see it.
You find the survey here:
http://www.cautious.de/umfrage/index.php?sid=96664&lang=en
If you are able to speak german you can switch the language
Thanks a lot if you are taking part, helping me to get a good result
Kind regards
Johannes

Hello,
I am a student at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, participating in a course designed to analyze transnational gaming in MMORPG’s. Our class has come together to create Worldplay, a collaborative effort focused on the academic research of online gaming. Our class has already played Dungeons and Dragons Online and participated in transnational player interviews to get a scope of our potential research. The game that I have looked to explore is World of Warcraft. We are looking to gather data about player’s feelings and experiences with MMORPGs using a survey created by our team. Through our website, we hope players from around the globe will come together in collaboration.
If you take the survey, please take your time to think about the questions. Further, any ideas you have to further improve our research would be greatly appreciated, so feel free to leave any suggestions.
As a class, we believe in carrying out our research in an ethical manner. Our goal is to gather data on transnational play. All postings will be anonymous and will be used solely for academic purposes. We appreciate your time and effort in our research and hope you will come back.
The survey can be accessed here (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=0XVldzH_2faws01aVBqibKew_3d_3d).
