Ok..I was a dumb bunny and bought a Mac. I wanted to learn a new OS and it certainly was not worth the price.
First off..my LCD is failing..after less than three months. Of course they will repair it in 5-7 business days. Oh, I have to drive it up well over an hour to the Apple Store. Tonight, my keyboard took a poop. Yet again, a warranty issue but I was not going to drive an hour each way to fix it.
I am really thinking that Apple sucks so bad in the CS department they are not even worth purchasing a computer from them.
In order to get my LCD fixed, I have to drive over an hour to the Apple store and back..two times. Please keep in mind the computer is less than THREE months old.
Sorry, but I am just venting that I spent well over 2k for this pile of garbage.

Yeah it sucks that parts fail. All parts. On all computers.
BTW, I used to work at a big box store, and you know how long it took to replace a computer under warranty in the first year? 3-6 weeks. I quit after a couple months because of the number of times a day people would yell at me.
Also, I've found that if you make a stink and say that you need a computer for work, it's essential, it's only been three months...(blah blah blah) and demand to talk to a manager, you can sometimes get a temporary replacement.

I understand your viewpoint..but when I pay that much for a computer, I expect it to last a bit more than three months before failing.
I purchased an iMac and not only am I twirked that I will be without it for god knows how long, but I am worried about security. Its not like I can take out the hard drive.
I guess I am just used to the service I received from Dell. Don't get me wrong, I don't like Dell but I had an out warranty issue, yet a known fault so they fixed everyone's for free, a few months ago on my crappy 3 year old laptop. The LCD was shot on that one as well. I called, got the box the next day, shipped it out while the dude was still here and had it back two days later. They replaced the screen as well as my keyboard.

I haven't had first hand experiences with macs, but the support from Dell is pretty amazing. Friend of mine had the same thing, 17inch lcd broke, called Helpdesk three times and after the third time they sent an engineer over. Luckily for my friend that engineer only had 20inch tft so he got a free upgrade :)
I'm a bit surprised about the iMac failing though. I've heard nothing but positive things about the new iMac so far, but perhaps they're all Appel FANBOIZ ! ;o
And if you want to experience a new OS, the new Ubuntu is pretty amazing!

Yeah, I know the thing's expensive. It's worth it for some people, and others wonder what's the big deal. I get it, and shrug. It's not a big deal. I like orange juice, but if you don't I'm not about to yell at you about it. :D
I also remember getting really good service for my old dell laptop, but really crappy service for my (even older) dell desktop. My laptop was out and back in a couple days, my desktop was gone for two or so weeks.
I'd hate to have to drive more the 10 minutes to get something fixed, one of the benefits of living in a big city. Did you raise a stink to try to get a temp replacement? (If you're lucky - with the same hard drive... maybe that's wishful thinking)
As for parts failing - there is a small percentage of cases where this will happen - when putting together so many parts, there will always be problems. But I think you're right when you say that when the inevitable happens to that small percentage, it's what you do and how you do it that wins you the good reputation. Bring it up at the Mac store, or to the guy on the phone. If you're paying for AppleCare I'd definitely bring it up. It would be very beneficial (though expensive, and risky - due to the size of the iMacs) to have a shipping service similar to dell.
Anyways, good luck, and I'm sorry that this experience has put you off Macs, I've found the ones I've owned very satisfying.

I run linux on one of my laptops so I am very familiar with Ubuntu.
