View Full Version : Raid symbols and You....
I would like to check out if the use and meaning of raid symbols has somehow managed to unify over most servers. Also it may give players who are about to do serious 5 mans and smaller raids some ideas.
Skull = gets killed first
X = gets killed second
Moon = sheep target
Nipple = always gets a good laugh and usually is a sheep target
Square = trap target
Diamond = banish or seduce
Star, Triangle can be anything depending on raid and mob setup: banish, fear, sheep, trap..
How do YOU do it?
(With real big groups in BT or possible adds, the MT will be always placing a new Skull on the next mob to nuke...which makes this whole affair a no-brainer)

Depends how many mages we bring.
Diamond and Triangle tend to be banishes.
Sheeps tend to be Star/Moon/Cookie/Square
But in a 10man raid it could as easily switch to me taking the moon (as I tend to do the marking and like reserving it to myself) and square being trap or shackle.

Almost exactly the same in my guild, except switch nipple and diamond. Our main assist also switches next nuke target to skull just so there is no confusion.

Pretty similar, though we mix up the other symbols. Skull is always the burn target, X is next. After that, what the others are depend on the group. There are a few people in our guild who always get the same symbol (one of our mages insists on getting the diamond for her sheep target), but other than that, we seem to use coin (nipple?) and star for sheeping and banishing targets a great deal. Square tends to be a trap target. Lately I've been getting assigned moon as a banish target fairly frequently.

In our 10-man raids:
Skull = Kill first
Cross = Off-tank/kill second
Star and Circle = Sheep
Square and Moon = Shackle
Diamond = Banish
In my guild (plus most pugs I've been in)
Skull: Kill First of course
Cross: Second kill/off-tank
Moon: Sheep
Square: Trap
Circle/Star: Shackle or Hunter/Warlock's Pet/Demon
Diamond: Banish/Seduce
For the most part, I'm tired so can't remember everything atm.

Spose our symbols are like, a learned language.
They are different in heroics compared to 25'S
And once we get to an encounter, MT's and OT's have common symbols. At first glance that would imply, sheep the MT. lol.

On my server I think skull and X for kills, moon for sheep, square for trap are fairly standard. Other symbols tend to be on an ad hoc basis depending on what's needed. Certainly it's like that in guild runs and 95% of PUG's.
Saying that, several of my rl friends are in a different guild to me and they use the star for first kill, I think nipple was second kill and....well, it took some getting used to when I did a run with them!

Was gonna post an idea for an addon in this thread relating to the current discussion. Then figured it belonged in the UI-forum. But I fear that it'll get lost in the "What's this addon???"-junk though :sad:.
Linky to the thread (http://www.worldofwar.net/forums/showthread.php?t=413056).

Same here, with minor changes:
Circle: 3rd tank
Star: sap
Triangle: shackle

For me, it is rather simple:
Skull = Looks most like Punisher. Often used on mini-pets.
X = Attempt to kill with a mining pick (X marks the spot, right?)
Moon = Pants target.
Nipple = Similar to moon, only remove the target's shirt instead.
Square = Needs scotch on the rocks.
Diamond = girl's best friend.
Star = Should go to Hollywood.
Triangle = point out group goober.
For some reason, people don't let me mark targets...

Skull - Primary
X - Secondary
Moon - sheep (like counting sheep to go to sleep at night with the moon)
Square - trap (blue icecube looking thingy)
Condom - Seduce (you'd use one if you 'encountered' a succubus right?)
Diamond - Banish ( no idea why)
Star - usually sap
Triangle - used by the OCD's so that everybody has some kind of mark, at which point they realize it's only a 3-5 mob pull and he just overwrote skull for no reason.

Usually the way it's done when I raid and such is:
Skull=Kill first
X=Kill after Skull
Circle=Kill after X
Box, Circle, Triangle, Moon and Star=Some form of CC
Diamond=Special, for example, one person take it and kill it, then get on Skull

recently ran with a guild that had X as kill first.... really confused me the first attempt at channelers.

the nipple (tit, condom, whatever) is usually sap in a 5man group, another sheep in raids

Skull and X are always 1st and 2nd targets but after that I like to shake it up a bit and just use whatever marks I feel like.

Skull = 1st kill
X = second kill/OT (declared before pull which of the two it is)
Moon = sheep
Square = trap target
The green one (is that triangle?)= banish
Nipple/Diamond/Star = Funny how everyone sees something "dirty" in that orange icon, I genuinely thought it looked like a nipple the first time I saw it :) Anyway, they are CC , always declared before the raid which one is which.
I've been in loads of guilds and this was always used =)

Just wait till you hear a mage call out on Vent: "Nipple is bleeding!"

Sex ain't dirty...nipples are lovely...condoms can be lifesavers...and you can still think of it as a cookie, like one of the first posters :grin:

It's the orange circle raid icon which if examined closely is probably supposed to be a shield. But it is a circle with another raised circle in the middle and is shadded to appear somewhat 3D.

The circle on the top right does resemble a nipple or condom when you look at it ingame :p I don't know why people accept a square, triangle and diamond shape with graphics on it, but a circle is always interpreted to be some item.. people are weird !

Okay, as a new guild we had no idea what order to use...so we made it up one day:
Skull - Head - We knew that had to be first
Triangle - Panties
Circle - Nipple
Star
So, someone says "Go for the head, then straight to the panties (the way guys do) to the nipple and a star for a job well done."
Added moon for sheep / square for banish etc.
Makes for some funny quotes, like being in Kara and the off tank says (without thinking at all) "I wacked on the panties a couple of times, then came on the nipple."
