View Full Version : Lag was cool to me!

It was totally lagged last night on Dath'Remar. My companion pet kept disappearing, a silver tabby, though my hunter pet did not. I kept trying to open the tabby up but nothing happened. Then suddenly about 10 minutes after my last effort FOUR silver tabbies appeared! Two were always running with me separately and two were separated when running but standing very close when I was still. I ran everywhere with four cats out. Many people asked me how I managed to end up with four of them. It was very cute!

Here's one where you can clearly see all four.

And here they are up closer, though two are squished together so you only see three.

Heh, must be one of the cutest bugs I've seen so far. Have they already started calling you 'weird cat lady' or something similar? ^^

My main is the weird cat lady. She likes to buy a bunch of cats and then port to Darnassus and give them away to newbies.
I told a couple people I had all these cats because of a rare "Goblin Menagerie Box", LOL. (I did tell them about the lag afterwards though).

sounds cool. i think i'll do that on my guy too... buy a bunch of senegals and owls and give them away in newbie zones.

It is great fun though I suspect some of them thought that when I asked "do you want a free cat?" I was talking IRL. Darn is a long way from the crazy cat lady so it's a nice thing to get as a newbie.

That is adorable.
If only this bug could be replicated with multiple pets. Cockroaches and Whelplings and Kittys. Oh my!

Might want to be careful though, lest you get accused of duping, which could have consequences with regards to your account.

But that's the beauty of it. It's nothing like duping. You see, even if the pet is summoned 4 times, there'll still only be one summoning item, so it's not really duping.
anyways, it's a really cute bug, I think I'll have to try it out. Though, my favorite bug is still the "mobs falling through the roof of exodar, and then just wandering around in there"... That one just made me laugh..

So they nail you with bug exploitation then.
Either way, just don't come here saying that you didn't know, if some GM decides to make an example out of you.

Anyone here remember the bug way back during Launch, where people could have hundreds of mini-pets running around behind them? What about the MASSIVE amount of lag that was caused by it because the game had to keep track of the sheer volume of mini-pets moving?

I have no idea what duping is and I did not know that a cool lag effect could get me in some trouble.

Duping explained (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duping).
As for whether or not you get into trouble, rather depends upon the GM assigned to the case (dependent if someone reported you, and there's always someone looking for a way to mess with another player). If, it's a stickler, than you might end up with some hassles., if he's or she's laid back. They'll just have a chat with you and despawn the additional pets.

The pets are long gone. They don't need to be despawned, LOL.
Well in my case there was no duping. I did not have 4 cat carriers in my bags, just one.
Interesting to read about though.

I think sometimes the mods on this board go to far with the rules. The GMs have a great sense of humour and this is not the user's fault.
As a pet collector I must say I love this :)
I wouldnt want to log out for hours lol.
A GM would have to be in a very bad mood to ban you from the game for a temporary visual glitch that the user had no control over.
Duping? Give me a break. Someone has been playing Diablo 2 way too much. Duping in World of Warcraft however is virtually nonexistant, outside private servers.

This bug still exists, I've seen a few people use it recently on my server. One of the guys using it explained how it worked. I don't remember any details, but I do remember it was a fairly complicated procedure. No mods or hacks were used though, just exploitation of a bug.

Interesting, but it does not exist in its original form, I can tell you.

Nah - it's just Valas. We love him anyways.
On the subject of lag-inducement, it sounds like it's difficult enough to do that most people won't put that much work into it. Like, I know how to get up on the upper part of the wall in the Org auction house (upper right, if you've just walked in the door), but I hardly ever do it because it takes a while.
It sounds like a fun little bug exploit that doesn't do much and doesn't give a player any added benefit. I'd like to do it with my hippogryph pet ;)

Well, I am a bit of a doom and gloom person.
Then again, better to be safe than to be sorry.
Lag does do some really strange things though. I was once vendoring some items when I got hit by a huge lag wave. After it was over, there was some cute little monkey following me around (I think he was one of the pets from the Card Game). I lost him when I logged off, but it was still very interesting and also very random.
I'm sorta wishing another lag spike would hit and give me a few warglaives.

there's a difference between what basically is an effect on you (the minipets following you) and getting a glitch which produces an item in your inventory. The former could be very trivial (and would disappear once you log off in the case of the mini-pets), the latter is effectively duping, and moreso, it is a far more complex process in their system I imagine.

So if an item ever magically appears in your inventory thanks to lag should you destroy it immediately so you aren't accused of some scam?
GM: You are BANNED for the unauthorized replicating of Fish Oil!

No, what I am saying is that doesn't happen. Not from lag. The "buff" effects can happen from lag, due to the nature of the beast. In particular, the "buff" effects from having minipets can happen.
