Hi there all WOW fans!
I've been playing WOW for only about two months now, am completely hooked!
However apart from a few friends in my guild I'd really like to meet new people to quest and chat with.
I'm on Nagrand (H) and have Lvl 43 Warlock, Lvl 18 Priest & Mage and Lvl 14 Hunter.
Just looking for like minded crazy guys that love WOW and chatting to a nutty 26 girl at same time!

I'm just more puzzled by the entire point of the last line:

Because to me, that line raises a huge red flag. Then again, maybe I'm just paranoid.

naw Xlorep it's not just you.... I thought that was a bit odd and out of place here myself. Not that I post that much (I mainly lurk) but it struck me as weird too. I was expecting some nice sweet post about how they had made some wonderful friends on WoW or something. Seemed more like a personals ad to me for a first post.... but then again I could be way off...... even tho I am female I guess I've never felt the need to blurt out anything about it. Maybe she's read the threads about how girls (or people assumed to be female) get treated better? (goes back into lurker mode....)

OK OK now I just noticed her tag says "Essex UK". Essex girl, I am literally laughing out loud :D
What does an Essex girl say after sex?
"Do you really all play for the same football team?"
I couldn't resist, I'm a sexist pig :(

Lol HoD, that's cruel. And damn funny.
But seriously, this forum isn't really the place to post a personal ad. If you want to be harrassed that badly, go to the realm forum like HoD suggested, because the odds that you'll find someone from your realm here are slight.

It dose seem more like a personal add.
I try and keep my gender hush when it comes to chatting forums and wow, well at least until I know the other members a bit.
I was in a guild for half a year without anyone knowing I was female. Soon as some of the very immature members found out, they ended up being removed from the guild and put on my ignore list
I try and keep my gender quite now.

Shame - I have loads of girlies in my guild - in fact 4/6 of the officers are females and i have warned/booted a few members for lounge lizard remarks where they are not welcomed.
On the flip side the chat does get fairly 'flirty' which can be fun - but there are limits to what you saya nd who [whom?] you say it too... (i only get away with it cos im the GM )
Essex girl joke....
The police were called to a bar in essesx who were reporting a robbery.
'Some tart has stolen my sign!' Complained the landlord pointing at a clean mark on teh wall where a sign had obviously been.
'Any idea who would take it?' replied the officer
'I know who took it - it was that mute essex girl who comes in here'
The officer looked bemused 'Why would a mute essex girl take your sign?'
'Cos it said all that an essex girls need to say - "Liquor in the front, poker in the back"'

It seems my realm has quite a low population of female players. (On Horde anyway) So when they do find out, the younger ones tend to get a bit excited.
Yes guild flirty chat is fun, now that I've known these guys for a while. Aslo we've managed to get a few more female players in, which is nice.

I had the same concern about the last line. But more power to her for looking for some new friends.
This post actually started to get me thinking (Yeah I know thats kinda scary!) Are there a lot of people that have actually started relationships through wow? I have two close friends that were a couple and started playing wow together. With the ability to make more of a connection (ventrillo) and spending so much time together in game I am surprised that you dont hear about more people 'hooking-up' cause of wow.
The typical gamer isnt the overweight dude in his mom's basement anymore. The population of gamers in wow is becoming more diverse and personally I think its great. I have to admit that I am jealous of folks like my friends that are able to share their hobby like this.
Anyway, good luck to ya essex girl, hope you find what your looking for.

My guild leader, half the officers, probably 1/3 - 1/2 of my guild, and half my 2v2 Arena team (2 out of 4) are females.

If I remember correctly it was the colonists that named these places. Guess your big tough adventurous heroes were feeling a little home sick.
But, you do have a point. Most places of the places around me (New York) are either taken from their english counterpart or a bastardized version of the local indian tribes.

San Rafael throughout the world (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Rafael), including Spain.
San Jose (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_jose), plenty in Latin America, although granted not in Europe.
San Fran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_%28disambiguation%29) throughout the world, including Spain.
Hillsborough (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillsborough) throughout the world, including the UK.
Alameda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alameda), including in Spain.
Richmond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richmond), indeed does have UK counterparts.

Daly City is named for John Daly, who if memory serves founded it. Redwood City would tend to be unique, due to well... the unique-ness of the redwood forest and such.
Honestly, it is less that Americans are unoriginal with names, than the people who came up with a name, often came from some other country/culture, and carried the names from their original home with them. Good ol' USA has a great many cities (and states) that are named in such ways you just plain won't find them elsewhere. Why? Because the names come from native american words. Check out the whole state of Oklahoma sometime.... most of the cities/towns there are named using native american words. Heck, my home town of Lompoc /lom-poke'/ is the Chumash word for "Valley of Flowers". My mom's home town of Sebastapol is actually named the same as the Russian city of the same name, because it was founded by colonists from Russia. Oklahoma, Arkansas, Minnesota, Seattle, etc. -- these are names you won't necessarily find outside of North America.
But the USA is home to a *lot* of immigrants. And a great number of these immigrants brought their cultures, and names of places with them into the mix. So you end up with "New York", "Paris", "Essex", and the like as well.
elsegundo

how annoying.
i kinda figured the spanish names would show up somewhere in south america and maybe in spain. anything that starts with "san" or "santa" is suspect.
and hillsborough is like... your borough in the hills. haha.
I know there's two Oaklands in the US, and Sausalito is a native american name. the rest are pretty generic i think. Daly city was named after some guy named John Daly. No clue where Union City got their name from. Redwood city seems pretty self-explanatory.
Xlorep... not just that the US is a country of immigrants, it also is true that the US had these existing cities before some of these places became part of the US. More than half of this country was, in one point in time, claimed by France and Spain.

The Bay Area in San Fransisco is a very European-esque area, and was probably not the best location for you to pick elsegundo.
Bear in mind that the entirety of Europe could easily fit inside the continental US, or rather, probably 1/3 - 1/2 of the continental US, and a good number of US immigrants came from Europe, it should not come as a shock that there would be city names duplicated in the US that also exist (and probably existed long before) in Europe.

Which the Spanish and French were immigrants from Europe still. Of course, the former parts of Mexico are also infused with Aztec, Mayan, and other Native American cultural influences in them as well (since Mexico basically is what was left of the Aztec people infused heavily with the Spanish). The US is a country made up of the mutts and mongrels of the world.

But all jesting aside, whenever you deal with an area that's been colonized by inhabitants of another nation, then you're liable to run into similar place names to that from their homeland. It's pretty much a given, if we ever start to colonize outside of our planet, then the same thing is liable to occur again.

kinda agree too. just a few cities away from me, people were having protests that the local business district wasnt named "Little Saigon" since a lot of the people there are from Vietnam. Saigon being the former capital of these displaced people. If it was a "nation" thing, then im guessing they would have lobbied for a Little Hanoi (current capital). but no vietnamese in the states will ever want that, nor would they go for "Little Ho Chi Minh City" (current name of the former Saigon). So even within nations, there are varying groups.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of areas that were relatively uninhabited, and the ones doing the colonizing being supported by their respective governments (see the Spanish colonization throughout the world as an example of what I'm precisely referring to). But fair enough, should've specified that better, because non-governmental sponsored colonization is also possible..

Hm, actually it was a voting to determine the standard language that caused the name change.. the Dutch language lost to the English language by a few votes, other wise it still would've been Nieuw Amsterdam.. and Dutch would've been one of the leading world languages, lol.

Dakiter, every time i walk into the bookstore and go to the history section, all i see are books on wars. My thought: Human history is a history steeped in violence and domination.
Throughout history there have been events that have changed the focus and direction of humanity. Most often these events are the result of or sparked by acts of violence. Wars and revolutions will be the focus more then anything else. Other major events like industrialization or growth are show to be the result of some type of war.
The problem with most history books is they are one sided in their perspective. American History books paint a different picture then the ones used in the UK. The cold war is completely different from the Russia perspective. It used to be said that history is written in the eye of the victor. I believe that still stands true but you also get a regional perspective as well.

War will always be sensationalized. All media avenues will turn a bloody, gritty, horrible thing into something romantic. The only thing you can hope for is that people take the time to learn the truth.
