When I first started, I didn't really know what I was doing so when I trained my pet, I pretty much trained him in everything. He had like 125 training points before I even knew anything about pet training.

Anyway, I'm really missing that 15 or 20 points that I stuck in Arcane Resist, Shadow Resist ect.

What happens if I untrain my pet from the pet trainer? Does everything reset and I start over or can I just untrain a few things?

When I went to the pet trainer, it said that it will require more food. Does that mean if I untrain that I'll have to feed the pet more? I'm already not liking having to feed it every half hour anyways. I'm thinking that I may want to just get a new pet like a ravager or something.

Thanks

you might just want to get a new pet. some have better abilities anyway.

yes the points will reset and you will have your total amounts of points to spend. right now, being at your level, i would put points in armor and resist first. then the attack speed increase and then what's left over, i might use it on their special abilities and of course, stamina.

get a new pet. you can have up to three at once, you just have to keep two stabled.

You have to start over when you re-train.

If you pay to have your pet untrained, your pet loses all of the abilities you trained it in, and has its full compliment of training points to spend.

Untraining does not affect how much food your pet needs. The frequency you need to feed your pet is based solely off of the loyalty level of the pet, which I'm assuming is 6 (Best Friend) at this point.

Yes, Loyalty is 6. I'm level 64, Pet is level 63. Anyone suggest good pets? I've currently got 2 open stable slots and my pet is a cat. The blue one you get in Ashenvale. I've taught it Claw, Dash and Bite.

I kept the same cat from level 30-something until 70. I would stable it when I needed to learn new spells.

Until Blizzard changes the training mechanic, I strongly recommend always keeping 1 stable slot open for training new abilities.

That said, my two hunters are set up with a pair of pets. Because I want my hunters to have various little differences between them, one is exclusively using pets that walk/run, the other is exclusively using pets that "fly". My Dwarf Hunter uses a Boar as her PvE/soloing pet, while a Cat for her PvP/Heroics pet. My Orc uses a Bat for his primary pet, and a Dragonhawk for his secondary pet.

They did change this...unless they've since changed it back. You can have 2 pets stabled and take your 3rd pet with you out into the wild. If you find something you want to tame, simply dismiss your pet (not abandon) and tame the new one. Fight with it a while until you learn the new ability and then abandon it. Then recall your 3rd pet that you dismissed. (but see below)

I would reccommend waiting until you are near a stables before abandonning though, because of a glitch in the pet recall. What most have had to do to get their dismissed pet back is to pull out a stabled pet first. Your dismissed pet then appears in the vacated stable slot. Then do the normal switch.

i found that my owl from winterspring, with its growl (trainer learned) and screech (innate owl ability) worked well enough to keep my mobs busy and also keep their attention.

not sure if the owls in HFP have the same abilities.

i hear ravagers have high dps and good defense.

and if you want the warp stalkers all around terokkar forest are decent pets. i dont know why i just think they are awesome when they blink to their mobs.

Really.... I was.... unaware that they did this. If so, that rocks. I must have been not paying attention to that.

I have a level 36 pet (hunter 37), its a Younger Stranglethorn Tiger. I used to have a boar, but abandoned it (didnt know you could stable pets). How can I get my pet to learn some good moves, and what is the best pet for a hunter in this level area?

check out petopia for a lot of information on that.

Agreed. The url for that one would be http://petopia.brashendeavors.net

Best site to learn about Hunter pets. According to them, the top 3 of best pets to have are the Cat, the Wolf, and the Ravager.. but they provide a nice table with the differences in damage output and armor and such, so you can compare for yourself.

I also often use it to find what mobs I can learn certain ranks of abilities from, and where to find them.. or to see what kind of mobs have the look that I would really like.. there's just so much to find there, it's awesome. :)

Firstly, you should always keep your pet with the green smiley icon displaying. The instant it goes to yellow, feed it. Yes, I know it can be a bind feeding your kitten all the time but that's the price we pay for being so full of awesome.

Secondly, it doesn't matter what pet you pick, you'll have to feed them at the same rate ... they all have the same appetite and ultra-fast metabolism. The defining difference between pets with regard to feeding is what each pet type will eat. Some pets can be a nightmare to keep fed while others are very easy. Cats are at the easier end of the feeding scale, innkeepers commonly sell items your pet can eat and flesh drops off a great many of the things you kill.

If you want to get another pet that's fine but it's worth being clear about why you're changing.

By the way, have you trained your cat in the highest levels of Dash, Bite and Claw? Go to Petopia to find the creatures you need to tame to maximise your pet's skills. If you haven't gone out and learnt higher level versions of the attacks yet then your pet's performance will suffer hugely.
