Read file online?? Plez read

Ok im am 100% new to modding and i been using addon studios and im used to the software becasue i program in vb.net 2005 but i dont know the lua coding at all.
What i want to d is this thing for my guild. We have a Guild loto and all i want the addon is to do and say The pot is (whatever). we are rolling (whenever).
I wanted to know if there a way the mod can look on like at a file for the pot ammount and day of roll. If any one can point me to the right way or help me get the code that would be nice.
Also is there any list of code libarry or database i can get a link to . i cant seem to find one.

There is no way to do this in a WoW addon. Blizzard has deliberately made it so that a WoW addon can't access files or read from URLs, to prevent people from writing addon viruses or trojans.

An addon can communicate via "channels" in the game, so it would be possible to write an addon for yourself (or guild leaders) to "publish" the information, and one for people in the guild to "read" it.

I'd suggest digging into WoWwiki -- it has pretty much the most complete information on the WoW API that's online.
