View Full Version : Are there any nice, mature servers out there?

While I have always enjoyed playing on my server, the overall lack of maturity and outright rudeness of many of the players gets really old.
Maybe every server forum on the official forums is full of jerks and such, but my server seems particulary bad. Is it just my server or are all the official forums full of people who are allowed to flame and act like jerks with no consequence?
It's the same way in /2 to the point where I've turned off trade on all of my toons. Otherwise entering a city was just too frustrating to have the cluster of worthless text all over my chat box.
Are there any servers out there that seem to be more on the mature side on average or is this pretty much typical of every WoW server?

I think it probably varies....by time, by server, and by guild.
But, try any server that has been around awhile...e.g. more than two years.
You are on LS, which falls into the older server category, yet I have a different impression of LS than you, albeit on the horde side. Perhaps maturity varies by faction as well?

RP realms seems to keep some of the more immature players away. I agree with the comment above, stay away from the barrens.
I have also had few issues on the horde side of things.

I rerolled on Earthen Ring because a friend plays there, got toon to 70 on alliance side and never had any real problems with chat. I believe ER is one of the first realms around, and RP helps.
The interesting thing is, i got annoyed by alliance BG standards in that battle group. So i rolled a BE Paladin. I have to say, Horde side is easier to talk to people. I know i am feeding the prejudice that allies are all kids...but that is what i think now.
Started as horde in 2006, changed servers a lot. Even played with a few of our very own forum members (as horde). My biggest regret is my Alliance Warlock...
In conclusion to this long post: Older servers, RP, Horde. Then you should be set and won't be subject to bleeding eyes because you got a glimpse of the trade channel.

Long answer short:
No.
Short answer long:
There's a few nice mature people, but they're not gonna be talking in /trade etc anyway.
What you see there are the asshats.

Even there (judging by Earthen Ring EU) trade channel is camped by some guilds or individuals as if it was their personal channel. Many questions get "witty" remarks and every day some idiot will mention "Dirge"....
I say after a certain amount of time (and laxness in reporting abuse or punishing it by a GM) servers start to go to hell..some worse than others...
EDIT: Hehe..now I see MixiMan's post, I wonder if we are on the same ER (there is US and EU) , but I agree that Alliance side is much worse in the big cities...

Does Blizz not have any regulations for their official forums and trade or are they just too understaffed to really deal with it?

Finding a mature server is like finding a guy who is both rugged and sensitive, loves to cook and clean, dislikes beer and footy, and doesn't want to have sex any more often than you do..
Try finding a mature guild or faction, and you'll have a far better chance of succeeding.

Finding a mature server is like finding a gal who is sweet yet not oversensitive, loves to cook and clean, likes feeding me beer and shuts up during the footy, and always, always wants to have sex more often than you do..

In truth thats not me anyway - I can cook and clean, I dont drink to much and cant stand football. Generally kinda rugged but i fail on the sensitive aspect. (if you dont want an honest answer dont ask for one!)

That is me and my lv 70 rogue :)
My huntress (lv 61) on Alliance side is Shaaraa. Throw me a hello, although I am seldom playing there. Don't know your character name though ;)
Kill Them All guild both on Horde and Alliance side...if you see any of us...give us a wave ...

About the posts above that..
A girl who wants more sex than I want? That'd be pure stress. And since I like to be self-dependent, I absolutely do NOT want a girl that loves to cook and clean. Strangely enough, that is what my wife does. And she NEVER complains about my playing time...

Shortoth/Grendum will be running around in Org.

I'm on an RP realm, and if we aren't subject to the more immature players then the other servers must truly be bastard infested pits of hell.
Just last night, AFTER i made my post here I was running through mgt with some folks to finish up my rep, and get some rep for some of their alts.
At the meeting stone, there was a group of people from the same guild. A guild I did not recognize, so i used /say and said.
"are you guys a new guild? How's it going"
only two people responded.
The first said
(excuse the language but i'm quoting) "eat my ballz"
The second said

I'm on an older RP server (Argent Dawn-US) and yes, of course, there are a certain amount of goons. However, I've been mostly impressed with the overall quality. I've rarely been disappointed striking up a conversation; I pug'd a LOT and didn't really find too many jerks (only ever left one group in 3 yrs).
I think I fall into the "not very sensitive" category; I don't rile easily. But I've found it overall a pleasant place to game...I always get a helpful answer in general, easily find enchanters, easily join decent pugs, etc.

It seems like in the general chat on my server (Alliance side) that anyone who asks any type of genuine question is usually flamed for 5 minutes or so and has to sort through all that crap to find the one person who actually responded with an answer.
I see people asking a question and if I know the answer, I normally send them a tell with the information and I've had many of them reply with something like, "Thanks for the info and for not being a jerk."
My guild is very low-profile. We've been around for about a year and a half, but only have about 150 members (not all level 70 and some alts) and we are just at the beginning 25 mans, so we're not very well-known.
As an example, I was doing my dailies on QD awhile back (before we got the anvil) and someone was asking about when the badge vendor would be up. So I replied in /1 about what all we had to get before the badge vendor and I mentioned that I was also looking forward to it being up. Almost immediately someone replies with something about my guild (since we're not high profile) and how we shouldn't really be caring about the badge vendor since we're not that progressed, etc. My only reply back was something to the effect of, "No, we're not in BT or Sunwell, we're a pretty casual guild that just likes to have fun" and I got a few more minutes of people mocking that and I never replied again. And my guild isn't one that is known to be jerks in /2 or anything, so I wouldn't think that anyone would have anything against us.
That's just one example, but stuff like that happens on a regular basis and I watch people get flamed on our server forums non-stop.
As an example of our forums..

Sounds just exactly like my server. I'm in one of the top 5 alliance guilds, we try to be nice to folks but most of the truly terrible statements come from people in 25-50 person guilds who do nothing but pvp and think that makes them better than everyone else.
The constant slamming of pve players and the "you can't down 1 year old scripted bosses" comments that are thrown about really get old.
The truth is the people in these pvp guilds mostly cant' get along with others, so they can't raid. They have a difficult time finding 4 people that can stand being around them for their 5v5 most of them 2v2 or 3v3 because they can't find more than 2 people that they can get along with.
Since we are posting examples, here is some of the typical crap we see on our server and forums.

I don't waste my time getting upset by the asshats of the world (I'm glad someone else uses that word - I used it the other day in guild and people had no idea what I was talking about and I don't remember where I heard it first) but it is an annoyance that I'd like to avoid if possible.
I don't let the jerks on the official forums (which I only check occasionally anyways and never post) get to me, but if I had an option to go to a server that had more of a mature playerbase, then I'd certainly put some serious thought into transferring.
I've found that people tend to become bigger jerks on the internet where they can hide behind the anonymity. It even seems that talking in vent can sometimes make people a little bit nicer (not always, but sometimes) since there is more a real-life part to it.

And footy = football. That thing you American folk like to call soccer. Big thing over here, I think as big as baseball is for you. Don't come between a guy and his favourite club, and like Bearbehind said, make sure you shut up during the game. *)

"it is a game" excuse gets very old and tired after a while.
Of course this did not bother me in the least, but you know what it does?
It makes me not say anything at all next time, i mean why bother?
The only reason someone says something like that is that there will be no retribution, if he were to say something to someone like that in real life he'd be scraping himself up off the concrete.
But we'll all say "its just a game". Coupled with "dont' take it serious".
Wouldn't it be nice to log into the game without bein subject to that kind of environment?
I'm hoping that a whole bunch of people will start playing GTA and while they are gone their accounts will get hacked then they can say "that sucks ballz" and never play wow again.
That would be great.

You are forgetting that the person sitting across from you at the table, is likely to be someone you know and who's a friend of yours. One can converse differently with friends than one does with strangers.
Least from a social etiquette point of view anyway.
What's just teasing from friends, can be fighting words from a stranger.
Always keep that in mind, lest you find yourself in more trouble than you're likely to be able to handle.

On the other side it is a good/easy outlet for frustration:grin:
I mostly keep away from trying to be an asshat ( i am not very good at it anyway ), but if a "witty" remark just opens up the goal for me to take a free shot, you can count on me to score.
Just always be aware of the fact that these are strangers, just as we all here are strangers.
Biggest part of "witty" is body language, and we don't have that on the internet.

Unreliable. Moms card is on the account while the kiddies play. Also maturity is not always directly proportional to ones age.
