I'm almost level 70 with my first character. I hit level 69 y'day and am still questing in Nagrand.
My gear is about half greens and half blues. I've read other forums and see that gear is one of the primary aspects of getting in a guild that "knows what they are doing".
Here are a few questions I have as I need to get out and do some things other than questing.
PVE vs PVP armor. I understand that the best players will have separate sets for each. What constitutes each? I'm going to guess that PVP is more geared toward hit rating where as PVE may be more geared to crit.
DPS-Occasionally, I see people spamming for DPS for instance or 2v2 etc. I know that DPS stands for Damage Per Second but what classes make up DPS? Rogue and Hunter?
How do I get better gear? With the quests I do, I get a better Item than I'm wearing occasionally but it's so minutely better that I don't really think it makes that much of a difference. How do I get the purple gear that you can buy in Aldor Rise with honor points?
Can someone take a look at my gear on armor and critique? I'm thick skinned so no worries...Thunderhorn - Billybrasky

no pvp gear has more stamina, penetration, resilience. pve gear will have more attack bonuses, and hit rating. thats just in general. you get a lot of PvE gear from instances, quest rewards, etc. you'll get a lot of your PvP gear from doing battlegrounds and arenas.
DPS-Occasionally, I see people spamming for DPS for instance or 2v2 etc. I know that DPS stands for Damage Per Second but what classes make up DPS? Rogue and Hunter? DPS is anyone who is a DPS class. meaning they do damage. other classes you see are tank, healer, cc sometimes. a hunter is a dps specific class, usually. so are mages, rogues, warlocks and soem druids. healing classes include priests and a few other classes, usually depending on talent build and gear.

U.S.
I have been in a couple of guilds. First one had about 30 characters and averaged about 4 online when I play which is 8-12 CST during the week. GM was always logging off as I was logging on. I was about the 5th highest level char in the guild. 2nd one had more characters but weren't very helpful. Averaged 10-15 during my playtimes but bunch of smartass kids.
What's cc as a class?
Thanks
CC is "crowd control". Like a mage could sheep a mob or a hunter could freeze trap a mob. I'm not sure what the best CC class is.

Here are a few questions I have as I need to get out and do some things other than questing.
1. PVE vs PVP armor. I understand that the best players will have separate sets for each. What constitutes each? I'm going to guess that PVP is more geared toward hit rating where as PVE may be more geared to crit.
2. DPS-Occasionally, I see people spamming for DPS for instance or 2v2 etc. I know that DPS stands for Damage Per Second but what classes make up DPS? Rogue and Hunter?
3. How do I get better gear? With the quests I do, I get a better Item than I'm wearing occasionally but it's so minutely better that I don't really think it makes that much of a difference. How do I get the purple gear that you can buy in Aldor Rise with honor points?
4. Can someone take a look at my gear on armor and critique? I'm thick skinned so no worries...Thunderhorn - Billybrasky
1. PvE Armor is more suited for damage or healing output while PvP is more geared towards survivability. PvE Gear will have more +Damage and Healing or +Healing or +AP. PvP gear will have that but in lesser quantity and instead will feature more Stamina and Resilience rating, since in PvE in theory, the tank is the only one who's supposed to be getting hit.
Example:
This is my Tier 4 Chest item (Elementalism Specced Shaman): Cyclone Chestguard (http://www.wowdigger.com/i/29033)
--No Resilience (In theory, I'm not supposed to be getting hit)
--More Intellect (longer drawn out boss fights need more mana then brief PvP encounters)
--Less Stamina (In theory, I'm not supposed to be getting hit)
--More Damage and Healing
--Set bonuses
This is my Season 1 Chest item (Elementalism Specced Shaman): Gladiator's Mail Armor (http://www.wowdigger.com/i/27469)
--Resilience (I would be getting hit)
--More Stamina (More HP)
--Less Intellect (Shorter fights)
--Less Damage and Healing (balance issues)
--Set Bonuses
Edit: Only if the player intends on doing both PvE and PvP will they have a PvE and a PvP set. Usually what some players will have in terms of multiple sets is a Healing and a DPS set or a DPS and a Tanking set. For example. I have 5 items in my bags that give me +Healing that I'll swap if I need to heal.
2. DPS classes are:
Mage, Warlock, Rogue, Hunter, Fury and/or Arms Warrior, Ret Paladins, Balance or Feral Druids, Elementalism or Enhancement Shamans and Shadow Priests.
3. The gear that (I think) you're referring to is your Tier 4 and 5 sets and you don't get them with Honor Points. You get those by running various raids (Kara, Mag's and Gruul's for Tier 4, SSC and TK for Tier 5) and hope your item drops off the bosses. If you're curious as to which item you need for a part, hover over the little icon in the cost to see what you need. Usually the items you need are "Something of the fallen Something". For example Chestguard of the Fallen Hero (http://www.wowdigger.com/i/29755) will get you your Tier 4 Chest piece.
4. Your gear is actually pretty good. Try doing some quests in Shadowmoon Valley or Netherstorm. Those are slightly higher areas then Nagrand and thus will have some better quest rewards.
Edit:
CC is "crowd control". Like a mage could sheep a mob or a hunter could freeze trap a mob. I'm not sure what the best CC class is.
Usually comes down to player skill. But I think Mages are desired most followed by Hunters then Rogues. Although Warlocks and Shadow Priests have their uses for CC.
Edit 2:
If you're having trouble finding a guild, look for one that has a recruiting message kinda like this:
The <insert guild name> is looking for friendly helpful players of all classes and of level 60+! We have plans to start doing Kara in the near future! We have X Bank Tabs, a Tabard and a website! PST <person> for more info!
Usually those guilds are about where you are, getting close to if not 70, and whilst they try and pull together a Kara group, those who are already ready for Kara will usually run with a bigger, more developed guild. What's nice about those guilds is one of two things will happen:
They'll either grow, thrive and prosper.
or
They'll collapse and be absorbed by the larger guild.

for cc, it all depends on the situation. sometimes people specifically ask for a mage because of sheep. others ask for warlock because they can banish demons or seduce humanoids. some instances its nice to have a lock. trapping as a hunter can be difficult to learn, but once you get it, you get it. hehe. also, its easier for survival hunters because they do have better traps. you also get other tools as a hunter. have you used misdirect yet?
priests can shackle undeads, druids can entangle you with their roots, but that can only be done outdoors. luckily some instances are outdoors, but not many.
try battle grounds. you might end up liking that better than instances. though i do get a sense that you're the solo kinda player.

Hm, it depends.. on single cc, a Mage's Polymorph (sheep) is generally best. A Rogue's sap can only be used when the target is out of combat, a Hunter's trap can only be used when the target is lured exactly in it, and a Warlock's Seduce depends on one specific minion of theirs and is a rather fragile cc.
However, a Warlock can for instance Banish one mob and Seduce another.. a Rogue can sap one mob and Blind another.. whlie a Mage only has their sheep.
As for dps classes.. basically that's everyone who isn't a tank or a healer. Your tanks are protection Warrior, protection Paladin, or feral Druid, whereas healers are holy Paladins, holy Priests, restoration Druids, or restoration Shamans. Any other class/spc choice will be primarly aiming at doing damage, and are hence dps classes.

My mage is now 67 and in Nagrand which seems insanely easy to me after other areas. All of my gear has come from the AH and I have not gotten a drop or quest reward that improves my gear for about 30 levels. Almost everything I have is +fire dmg. The pure +dmg gear is much higher damage than the gear that gives you +crit and +intell/spirit. At one point I had a set of gear that was +spell dmg/+crit and I have experimented playing kitted out in this versus kitted out in the pure +fire dmg and the +fire dmg is massively better. This means though than most of the gear is green.
I am wondering if at some point this gear is going to become very inadequate. I am not in a guild, I wanted to solo to 70 and have stubbornly done so. I am really enjoying my lvl 26 hunter atm and I can see myself using the mage as a gold provider primarily, once I get the flying mount. I don't seem to have any end game goals though I wonder if I will need to be more advanced in some mysterious way for WotLK.

WotLK will be pretty much the same difficulty-wise.
