Keyboard turning, help.

Having exclusively played WoW on a laptop for the last year (with a trackpad mouse), could somebody explain to me how moving with am external mouse works. Ive often read and heard that its vital to use an external mouse to turn, especially if you play Arenas. Can anyone provide me on some info on this please.
I dont raid and dont PvP alot, so its never been vital for me. But i would be very interested to know how to turn with a mouse as it may become useful in the future when I make a stab at more hardcore WoW play.

Holding the left button down and moving it will swirl the camera around you, while your character still moves the same way.

Holding the right button down and moving it will turn the viewpoint of the character, so for example moving straight ahead and then rightclick-dragging the mouse to the left will cause your character to make a left turn.

Holding down both buttons will make your character run, much like when pressing 'w'. Some people prefer to run with the mouse so that they can use their left hand to press other hotkeys, other people prefer to run with 'w' because then they can also strife (i.e. moving sideways) by pressing the 'q' and 'e' buttons.

i usually hold down my mouse key and drag up and down. it works the same way as dragging left and right.

holding down right mouse key changes camera angle only, holding down the left mouse key changes the direction in which you're facing, and if you're moving, changes the direction in which you're moving. holding down both keys will cause you to run. if you have extra buttons on your mouse, they can be used for other things. i have my third button for auto-run.

oh and i never use A, D or the arrow turning keys ever. its all done with the mouse. but i do use Q and E.

O yes and holding the right mouse button and moving mouse foward & back will cause you to dive/surface underwater or go up or down on flying mount. :wink:

just wanted to correct myself. dragging the mouse up and down will only change your view... up and down. and dragging the mouse left and right will rotate your view left and right. i guess i've been doing it so much so that i forget the actual mechanics of it... its just second nature.
