Ok it will be a still a while before I finaly play WoW because I need a new 'putor and that has atually given me plenty of time to pick a class and get to know the game a bit before I even play it.

However this huge amount of time has made me think too hard about a class and I was going to post something on here asking you all what class i should pick and I'm sure you'd of all loved that...

But I just realised the only think stopping me rolling a rogue is that it is overplayed but I just asked myself; why should I care? I'd feel safe with a rogue as I'm more experienced with melee on rpgs so I won't mess one up like I would a complexed hybrid. Also I'm sure a rogue would be exciting!!!

I'm not sure what race yet so I'm just going to choose the one I think looks the best. So anyway... YEAH!!! I made up my mind!!! Was there any point in posting this? YEAH!!! Because I feel an awful lot better posting this than asking advice on a class.

Intrestingly enough I have been considering both Blood and Night Elves but am swaying slightly towards Blood as Horde seem to be apealing to me more than Allinace...

Doubt I'll be a dwarf as they don't seem "roguey(?)" enough; same with orcs...

I hate Gnomes... Humans seem a bit too plain and boring... I don't think Troll though i have considered it in the past... not keen on Undead either.

Probably an Elf, I love Elves, ever since I watched Lord of the Rings.

Elves needed Lord of the Rings as now they are considered to be a human height rather than about 2ft with a little green hat.

Actually, the LotR elves are pretty much the stereotypical elf... have been for oh, what, almost 100 years? And even before the book was written, if memory serves, they come from the Celtic lore of the Sidhe... or some such, JRR Tolkien got everything from his books by compiling ideas together from multiple mythologies and legends.

The movie adaptation of Lord of the Rings didn't make elves what they are....

LoTR... the only time you'll ever see a fat elf is at the battle at Helm's Deep.

otherwise, elves are depicted in LoTR like most other lore.

and gnomes are badass.

Nah.

I do have 200 odd gold you can have, justy create an account in speed.travian.com and it's all yours.

Or maybe not, Trav will steal you from playing WoW, it's that much of a timesink.

You are actually mixing terms here.

Elf, or the plural Elfs, is the old spelling which was commonly used to refer the archaic diminutive race (short) from Grimm's fairy tales - also adopted in American culture for Santa's elfs.

Elve, or the plural Elves, came into use in Celtic mythology and was popularized by LOTR and is generally tall, slender, and noble. As Darkhelm mentioned the Elves in LOTR were taken from Celtic mythology and that includes their stature.

Not 100% sure on that one.

On the topic of Elves, they also make an appearance in Norse Mythology. One of the Realms on Yggdrasil (and if that seems familiar, yes, it's Blizzard once again taking Mythologies twisting them around a bit. Another prime example is the Chimera. In Warcraft, they're two-headed dragon type creatures. In actuality, it's a creature with a Lion's Head, a goat's Midriff and a snake for the tail. Oh and it breathes fire), which is the World Tree where the 9 realms exist.

If you're curious as to what the 9 realms are they're:
Asgard, the home of Aesir, which is the main pantheon of Norse gods (IE: Odin and Thor)
Aelfheim, the land of the Light Elves
Midgard, the land of Men
Jotunheim, the land of Giants
Vanaheim, home of Vanir, a lesser pantheon of Norse gods.
Muspellheim, the world of Fire
Nifhelheim, the world of Ice
Svartalfheim, home of the dwarves
Hel, land of the inglorious dead

It's interesting to note that at Ragnorak, which is the end of the World in Norse mythology, the entire cosmos is flooded, leaving very little. In The Silmarillion, the vast majority of where the story takes place is flooded.

A lot of Tolkien's work takes bits and pieces of both Norse and Celtic mythologies.
