I joined another guild a few days ago that said they were gearing up for Kara runs soon.
First-I don't know where Kara is
Second-The gm said it would be a week or so as members were gearing up.
I asked but received no reply about what "gearing up" meant. I don't want to go to Kara and end up useless to the team. What kind of gear should I try to get for Kara?
Thanks
Renata

Karazhan is in the southern part of Deadwind Pass, which is between Duskwood and Swamp of Sorrows. You want to go down there and complete a few quests, which will open up a quest line inside.
Gearing up means pretty much what you think it means -- improving your gear. At this point any improvements are probably good. This could mean running heroic instances. You can use the "Find an Upgrade" feature on Wowarmory to see what upgrades it suggests and where to get them.

The Wow Armory is not a mod, it's part of Blizzard's official site.
Link: http://www.wowarmory.com/
Eidt: Damn you Twoflower! :P
Edit2: If the OP is from Lousiana, US then your link is wrong :P

Gearing means to get gear that improves your stats enough to actually survive in the instance. Which means, minimum requirements.
Health - make sure you have about 7000-8000 hp.
Not too sure about mana.
Crit - 15%-20%
You'll need +Hit. not sure how much, but you'll need this.
Attack Power - 1500 at least, higher is better. obviously.
Your gear will get you those stats--get the gear through instances, heroic versions, and maybe some you can craft via leatherworking. also enchanting the gear, gemming the gear, and adding glyphs to the gear will improve your stats. to get the glyphs, you'll probably have to get revered with a faction in outland in order to buy them. you can get the gems from the AH, and enchants from other players.

Tater - can I just ask (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) - do you know how to search forums or use google?
It's just that you've made 125 posts since the beginning of March and don't seem to be able to find information yourself - I think almost all of them can be answered by having a quick look at wowwiki!

You aren't being harsh. I read here when I'm at work and I don't have access to most WOW content. I know what the armory is. I've looked at it and I understand mostly how to get the gear that shows as an upgrade for me. The problem is I don't know what is reasonably attainable. I have no idea where deadwind pass is as my questing never took me there. I use Wowdigger and some other unmentionable sites quite often for item and quest help or else I'd have 5000 posts since March.
Also, I've read a post on here about Kara in the past that says you need something like +100 hit rating and other things to be successful. I have nowhere near that and wonder if I should not worry about that.

Why didnt you just google deadwind pass?
or use this:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Karazhan
Link your armory profile and then we can see what gear you have and give advice on what to upgrade :)

I can find Deadwind Pass from the Maps here which I use daily. I guess I shouldn't have put that in my post because I could've found that on my own. Thanks whoever set up the great maps. Gear was my main concern. I have no idea to know if I am geared adequately for Kara. I can't go to armory from work. I'm on US server Thunderhorn, character Billybrasky.
One more dumb question. Is there a prequest to be able to enter Kara?

to get the key to open kara, you'll need to complete a series of quests that will take you to a few instances. good luck!
or... you can party with a team where someone in the group already has the key. that's all you need.
also... check your private messages.

Almost all your gear needs updating. You're wearing level 63 leg armor at lvl 70!
Run some heroics with your new guild and have a look in the auction house - with your current gear you will be far too squishy for Kara.. You really need to get a better ranged weapon asap - 48.4 dps at level 70 is just not high enough. Upgrade to a decent bow and put a nice scope on it.
Once you've got new gear you should get it either enchanted or put some nice armor kits on it.

Great Advice! Thanks. I wear the level 63 legs because matched with the Tunic, I get some nice adds but I'll definitely look for something nicer.
Sorry, I should've mentioned that that's not my primary ranged weapon. I have a nicer weap in the bank. I was just messing around y'day and figured I'd raise my crossbow skill to 350 since it was about 300 level.
I will at least put some armor kits on armor. Forgot about that also. I've changed out so much lately that I haven't bothered to put kits on them.
I had no idea about the scope. I'll look for one on AH.
Thanks a ton

Well I don't know anything about Kara and I learned a lot from this thread. I am glad the OP asked his questions rather than just looking it all up. Often you pick up a lot of stuff in conversations on forums that might fly past you (or me at least) just from endless googleing. I didn't know about the quest chain to unlock the Kara quests as I never ended up in those areas.

@ teacake... you can google it.. *evil grin* haha. but no, if you want, just google "Kara Attunement" and you'll get plenty of sites. The first few links will do just fine! =]
