Is there a way to tell if your PVP flag is active? Reason I am asking was I was coming from booty bay to Rachet. Got off at Rachet, went to the bank, and did a few transactions. Then I was hearing something, when I got out of the bank, it was some guy hitting me (I am horde, it was an alliance). Maybe pvp flag was active cause I just got off the boat, but still, I wish there was a way to tell?

Oh, then there was another time, I think a mage did an aoe spell (but I might have attacked someone forget), and my pvp flag was active (cause I got killed). I guess what I am saying is, can u be tricked into activation you pvp flag? Next to that time, I think the other thing that happened was an alliance challenged me to a duel. Dueled and lost, but then I got killed (it was by a hunter, maybe his pet got me). I guess that might be one trick.

Anything else I need to keep in mind? I have a level 25 toon and will be starting to venture out into contested territory, so I was wondering about this stuff.

Thanks.

First off, you can tell whether you're flagged if there's a Horde or Alliance crest displayed on the left side of your character's icon. If it's turned on 'by accident', then it'll wear off after 5 minutes of non-pvp - so when you do find yourself flagged, you can go find a safe place to wait for the flag to wear off lest you're being attacked.

Flags can be turned on without you realising, indeed. This happens when for instance you buff someone who has their flag up, or when you do an AoE spell and a flagged enemy gets damage. Stranglethorn Vale, where you were coming from, seems to be a bit bugged as more and more people report of finding themselves suddenly flagged without doing anything that could've caused it.

The only thing that isn't explained by the above is the fact that a Hunter killed you after a duel. Normally, duels can't flag you - what could've been the issue was that the Hunter set a Snake Trap on you.. did this happen before the last patch? Because it's solved now, but before then the snakes that emerged from a Snake Trap would also attack unflagged players, and defending yourself would get you flagged.

One more...dueling and they turn their pvp on in mid-fight.

Never ever accept a duel from a member of the opposing faction. It is entirely too easy for them to trick you into PvP ... and it will never be good for you if they do; unless you have a T6 geared Rogue friend in stealth nearby.

You can tell that you are flagged for PvP in two ways: firstly a small shield bearing the symbol of your faction will appear at the edge of your character portrait (where your health and mana bars are); secondly, your name will turn green (assuming that you play zoomed out in third person and that you have names - including your own - displayed).
