nope. Maybe you have a bad set of cached textures or something. I play at 1920x1200 with no problems in the graphics at all. My video card is an nVidia GeForce 8800 GT, what is yours?
ATi 4870 CF, but still I was running the game fine and now looks awful after the patch
after a few restarts apparently is fixed for now thanks tho

Definitely sounds like a texture cache problem. There's a folder in your world of warcraft directory called "Cache", if you delete everything from that, it would reload the textures properly and fix it (most likely). For future reference, since it looks like things are fine now.

Just for reference, if you're having problems immediantly following a patch, one of the first moves we'd recommend would be to delete your WTF and WDB folders from the main WoW directory. The game will regenerate them afresh, and complications can and do happen when the cache from a previous patch tries to engage with WoW if certain files have been changed, by sheer pot luck some times. While it isn't usually needed as the game usually doesn't get muddled up, if it happens to do so, it is often easy to give the game a helping hand by deleting its cache folders and letting it make a new set. Of course, if that doesn't fix the problem the cache wasn't the problem; but at least you've ruled that common difficulty out.

Regarding the above: there's no such thing as the WDB folder, it was renamed Cache a few patches ago. The WTF folder only contains addon settings and shouldn't cause anything like this. Delete the Cache folder first, if there's still no improvement delete WTF too, and for a last try you can delete Interface as well.

WHOA.... before people go deleting WTF and Interface... rename them.
The WTF folder contains, among other things, stuff like your keybindings and your macros. Got a bunch of custom bindings and carefully built macros? If you delete WTF they're GONE. So back them up (rename the directory or ZIP it and then delete). And Interface contains all of your addons... so don't just nuke it unless you really want to reinstall all of those.
come on guys, don't just casually say "Oh, delete that..." without considering stuff like this. People could lose a lot of settings for something that might not even help them.

Yes, you should back that stuff up first. Actually it's always worth having a backup of your WTF folder.

Hmm, I was more concerned with operability than saving the third party customisations, but it would be worth making a copy. I just liked to keep these instructions idiot proof, making them needlessly complicated may frustrate users and make them simply ignore what is being said. As a matter of general computing policy, you should always keep a backup of everything before you start making wild editing to the folders/files/anything inside the folders marked "Program Files" or "Windows".
And if you happen to delete your WTF and WDB/Cache folders, they should end up in the Recycle Bin for most users, making them restorable with ease provided you don't go beyond your instructions in your own executions and actions and decide to empty said bin. WTF doesn't just vanish and isn't gone, it goes into the Recycle Bin like any other folder, restoring it even with another version regenerated in its place causes the older version to overwrite the new blank one. Must admit I hadn't noticed that Interface folder name change, I still believe its best to get that third party trash out of the way first thing when trying to diagnose game problems. I know its attractive and adds functionality, I'm not recommending getting rid of it for life, just shove it somewhere else while we get the default game working with it not mucking up the works. Perhaps dragging it off somewhere else, preferrably My Documents or some other common landscape type region, would be better technique. Of course I'll most likely get pounced on for writing instructions specifically for Windows, but can't win them all.
