i recently bought a computer from best buy. it is an eMachines model T5254. Windows Vista Home Premium. It currently does not have mcafee or norton or anything and i have the firewall disabled.

i installed wow and that went fine. then i began downloading the patches. the first one downloaded and installed but after it reached 100% a message popped up with two tagged items which were :Unable to create shortcut to the file Launcher***** AND Unable to create shortcut to the file Repair*****. i went back into wow and started up the next patch (2.0.1). it downloaded and once it reached 100% install a message came up saying:

The file "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\World of
Warcraft\World of Warcraft.lnk.Temporary" could not be created. If this
problem persists, you may be able to solve it by uninstalling and then
reinstalling the game. If you are unable to correct this problem, please
contact Blizzard Technical Support. (InstallerFile::Create)

anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?

Perhaps go to http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors and download the content from there, that way you would have a prepatched game already (well, upto 2.3 at least).

Failing that try doing a "Run As" to see if that works for you.

if you have your old computer with the old wow folder in it, just copy the entire folder to your new computer.
