WoW Manual Patching Help Required

My version of WoW stands at 2.0.0 with Burning Crusade installed. My destination is to have the game at 2.4.0. However I have encountered multiple problems with manual patching.

When I attempted to download a patch that would supposedly leave me at 2.0.1 (I thought I'd start small)the updater told me that it was unnecessary because my version was newer than 1.x.x (it was a 1.x.x to 2.0.1. patch).

I attempted to download a full patch that would bring me to 2.4.0 but the error from the updater there was that it could not rename the launcher (impossible to do manually). I assume this having to do with my version being too old.

I think I've suffered enough from trying to find the answers so someone on this forum please be a godsend and instruct me on how to get my version to exactly 2.4.0 from where I am right now.

Ah, I've been found out.

Well I'm trying reinstalling the game client for now but assuming that the original problem I posted still stands does anyone have a solution?
