so kaspersky is doing its normal startup protection and I try to get onto WoW but can't. kaspersky then says it found a trojan (trojan-gametheif) in the wow***** file and automatically deleted it. anyone else have this?
EDIT: reinstalled wow with the CD and still got the trojan. don't know wtf is going on. any ideas?

I don't think I can post the link, but if you Google for "Virus Total" you can use their site to upload the infected file for a full scan.
If it is infected then maybe someone can upload their main WoW executable for you?
(I can't because I'm in a friends' house at the moment and have hijacked their laptop!)
Try it that way?
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I'd run through the whole list of software on the following forum thread: http://www.worldofwar.net/forums/showthread.php?t=406065 Perhaps not the whole thing, but something on there has to nuke it.

I still don't understand how there is a trojan on it as soon as I install from the cd. if my cd is contaminated is there anyway to get a refund or something from blizzard.

Because the "infecting" agent isn't in WoW.
Try everything that Kalos mentioned, because what is infecting the WoW file is not in the WoW folder most likely

thanks for all the advice guys. have installed the trial version from the wow europe website and the trojan wasn't present so am now downloading the full version from the website. haven't managed to trace the source of this trojan though.

thanks aerath, thats exactly the virus I got. in the process of installing from the cd and then will see if the repair tool works. if not then I'll continue downloading from the website (at 17%) and see what happens.

In fact its exactly the virus you didn't get.. false positives are when an antivirus program makes a mistake and identifies a harmless file as a virus.
