i recently got a computer with vista that has a better graphic card
so, i move my WoW using an external hard drive to program files on the vista and i download the Beta installer with much effort.
After that, i try installing WoTLK beta but i get a message saying that TBC is not installed
the bad thing is that i do not have the CDs and it would take like a month to download both with the patches due to my slow comp
i would appreciate it sooooo dam much if someone helped me with this

assuming u have a good internet connection.

I upgraded to vista, and had the disks. the updates however still took a while to download so its a no-win situation.

Leave your pc switched on overnight - wake up and hey presto....

Ugh... Vista... Sorry, that's all I had to add to the conversation, even though it's well known nearly everyone hates Vista.

To think that Bill Gates said it would be an upgrade to XP in like, 2001...

Ummm..... How could it be an upgrade to XP, when XP came out around then?

Most everyone who has never tried Vista hates it. Most people who have recently actually tried it see that its little different from XP except in memory requirements.

Not worth an upgrade, not worth crying about if you get it on a new comp.

and...why don't you have the CD's? Otherwise, yes, download at night.

XP Came out in 2001, Vista came out in late Jan 2007.

You can pretty much google it, Bill Gates himself said that Vista was supposed to be essentially like an "expansion" of XP. It was originally named "Codename Longhorn".

It was supposed to be a minor update between XP and their next project "Blackcomb".

Edit: Yup, Wikipedia has it on their site, lol.

I highly doubt, that Bill Gates said it would be an upgrade to XP, the same year XP came out.

You realize Windows was creating an upgrade to XP as they were making XP? Just like they were creating an upgrade to Vista as they were making Vista.

On topic:

Op, vista protects programs that are installed to the Program Files folder and can cause some strange problems with Wow. Try copying it to a different area of your hard drive.

I recently switched to Vista and ran into a few problems myself. You need to go into the wow folder and right-click the launcher . exe and wow . exe files, go to the compatibility tab and tick the box marked 'run as administrator' If you don't do this none of your game setting or addon settings changes will be saved.

Copy-pasting an installation from one OS to another is never a good idea. I'd say to download and install it properly, if your connection to the net allows you to reasonably do so.

That's odd. Mine works just fine without using the "run as Adminstrator" tag. That's funky.

Vista is way secure, doesn't crash as much, better looking.

The only thing that XP beat vista in is... can't think of anything, sorry.

I've done exactly that and it works fine. Even running the same wow installation from both my Xp and Vista partitions worked fine.

Yeah, WoW doesn't seem to need any registry entries to run whatsoever. I've even ran WoW on my sons computer, running it from my computer (via Network).

Actually worked well!

By the meaning of "never good" being that it is great when it does work, but horrible when it is depended upon as the only route and it doesn't work.
