Ok I was thinking of preordering the expansion but I have never done that before. I usually just wait and pick it up locally a week or two after its out but I really want to be there at the start. Can anyone tell me if ordering directly from blizzard is better then ordering through a store online? Any suggestions would be great. Oh and I am in the US if that is a question!

I would imagine Blizzard will have it available to purchase electronically and you'll just down it. By doing this you save time going to the store and you may be able to start downloading most of it before the release date. Then on the release date you would just get the rest of it and play right away. I'm guessing this is how they would do it. As far as cost, a store may be a little cheaper if it goes on sale.

its a choice of either waiting for the download of wrath to finish (if you order from blizzard) or for the post to arrive/arriving at the store (ordering from a shop). tbh there isn't much in either in terms of time difference so I would concentrate on cost.

From what I've heard (as I'm not in the beta), the download takes an hour or two. Gamestop, and other game stores, will be doing a midnight release. IIRC, when TBC was released, online retailers guranteed delivery on release day. So it really comes down to how soon you want to be playing. When you say you want to start right away, if that means within minutes/hours of release I'd opt for the midnight pick up. If right away means within a day or two, go for whatever's most convienient. Pricing should be the same across sources.

Speaking of which I need to make sure I save a vacation day for the release.

Most major stores will have a midnight release - Will be getting mine from the local Wal-Mart again.

For TBC I pre-ordered two copies from play.com (UK only though I think) and they both came earlier than realease so I had it sitting waiting for realease day to start it up. I think I will be doing the same for Wrath.

what would be awesome is if we can download the installation beforehand and install it. then we'd be ready to go come launch day with just a simple patch that opens up availability to all the new content we would already have downloaded. but meh... i think i'll join other folks in the lines or just preorder it.

IMO that's ideal. You've got everything loaded and ready to go. Come midnight, you're in a deserted (well in comparison to what it would be an hour later) Northrend.

I just put a deposit on my copy of wrath at this little game store near where I work. The guys at the game store say they will try to give everyone a call when its released. I casually glanced at the list and there is about 75-100 names on it already. They told me by putting a deposit down I am garaunteed a copy. If I show up and they are sold out... mortal strike, slam, sunder, sunder, mortal strike, execute!

I just purchased 7500gold from a game seller. they are doing a promotion, and they will send me a lvl70-80 guide when WotLK comes.
I think I will go faster by then ^.^

is that something you really want to own up to on an anti gold selling site?

as for preordering Wrath, as soon as the collecter edition comes out ill be preordering that, seems its not online yet.

however not much point in preordering the normal version of Wrath since if its anything like WoW and TBC i just walked into HMV, Virgin and Game and they all had a tonne of copies avalible.

I pre-ordered TBC (and AOC) through play.com and they both came 3-4 days after release which pissed me off enormously. This time I've just gone to Gamestop and pre-ordered it there.

/edit: and I'm talking pre-ordered months in advance

I do like clear lines of communication. :sinister:

You advertise for them in one of your messages, then we'll permaban you from the forums.

We get a report that you're sending private messages with advertising for them, and we'll permaban you.

For the rest, enjoy your stay here.

You mean Collector's Edition?

Really? That will be helpful a lot if it is true. I think there will be plenty of intertesting things in WOLK. Please tell more about that. WOWOWOWOW!:sunny:

Guess you missed the comment I made above.. Telling more would be most unwise.

Firstly sorry about the back to back posts, but after reading this i thought i better check out my local games shop.
I ordered 1 x collectors edition and 1 x standard.

If you want the collecters edition you better pre order it quickly, the shop i went to said i just scraped in and they wont be able to get any more.

Now all i have to do is win the fight with my son over who gets the cool stuff in the C.E.

Why isn't Blizzard selling the game / CE in their online store. Seems they only have some old tosh in there ?

Hmm.. Try it now.

As for the CE in the Blizzardstore, they might show up there in a while, unless of course they only are making X amounts and all the regular partners (Target, Best Buy, Amazon etc) already make up for X amount.

Drewid, you passed the one hour mark set up for editing posts, means the double post is fine.

Here's why I don't suggest it:
As soon as TBC was available for preorder, my son's best friend did so. On the day of release, my son and I trek the 100 mile round trip to go purchase our two copies, and bring them home. We had the game installing that night. My son's best friend? No TBC in sight. So he took the same trek we did to purchase his, and had it the next day. His preordered copy arrived 5 days later....

I'm going to be investigating an unusual place to pick it up this year. Seems 7-11 is trying to get into the release day rush on selling games, and if so, I'll probably pick up a copy there, since there's one within walking distance.

I didn't start playing until TBC was already out a while (i.e. I'm a huge noob :-))

What was it like whenTBC first came out? Were the servers ok, or was it laggy, buggy and generally a big source of frustration? If so, how long did it take to settle down?

This question is the thing that makes me not want to get it from day 1 and rather sit it out and wait. After all, as the self-confessed noob that I am, there's still plenty for me to do with the setup I currently have.

the first day or so were pretty laggy in hellfire peninsula with so many people being there, might not be so bad in WotLK as theres going to be 2 areas were you can go to from the go, plus with all the death knights a good chunk of the populus will be else were so it may be much smother than TBC, of course if you are on a pvp server you also have to factor in the added extra of ganking going on
