iv peen a lineage 2 player for four years and loved the game but a recent update has kinda pissed me off so its kinda put 4 years hardwork to waste really so im kinda looking for a new game to play till AION comes out in spring 2009...but games are always delayed so probably a little longer than that
i have a few questions
1)how is the comunity. i hear it sour
2)how long is it till i can raid
3) how is pvp..is it free for all.
4)how are the raids. fun? time?
5)what classes are most wanted in guilds. i was thinking of playing hunter, priest, or shaman.

1. the community in general chat is ridiculous. but if you find a decent guild, its good.
2. depends entirely on how well you play, how well you're geared, and how much research you've put into your character. raiding starts at level 70, so earliest you can do it is at level 70 (you can try the level 60 raids but well... good luck finding groups for those).
3. we're divided into two factions. horde vs. alliance, with each faction having five different races. 10 different backstory, starting areas, look, etc. i find horde races more intriguing than alliance. but thats just me. in PvP servers, you can kill anyone on the opposing faction at any time in most areas. in normal servers, you can only attack if their names are in red, or yellow in your home turf.
4. dunno. different ppl have different experiences.
5. priests. do not play hunter. theyre literally a dime a dozen.

thanks for the help.
so raiding starts at max level :)
how many hours does it take to reach 70?
lol why are hunter so overplayed?
elsegundo

usually, if you know your way around... 6-9 days played in-game (in game time. not real life time).
hunters are overplayed because... well i dont know. i made a hunter because i thought it was cool to have pets fight with you. then i discovered warlocks and dumped my hunter completely.
but really though, i see a lot of hunters who are clueless about their class and dont know the first things about playing in a group. there are some telltale signs (or is it taletell?) that a hunter does not know what he's doing in a group. you'll find more about this in the.... da da da!! hunter section!
but when it comes to raid spots, its not just about the large amounts of hunters. if you play your hunter well, and learn how to use him well (traps, aura, dps without over aggro, using aoe wisely, etc, you'll be fine. its not as simple as hunters dont get invited. understand that there are certain classes with certain specs that are not as needed or are not as beneficial to a raid. a druid in cat form dpsing will be passed over for a rogue and even a fury warrior. destro or affliction warlocks will be prefered over demonology or hybrid warlocks (SL/SL build, for example). you can find out more about the builds in their respective sections.
anyway, hope this helped. just dont worry about not being a hunter. but if you do become a hunter, worry about being a good one.

1. It's very hit or miss. My best advice is not to take things too seriously since there can be a lot of smartasses in WoW. I'd suggest rolling Horde first if you want to deal with less of them on average as they still tend to be the lesser populated faction on the older more established servers, however that can also lead to its downsides later on which I'll address as I answer your other questions.
2. First you have to get to level 70 (you'll need to get to level 80 when Wrath of the Lich King comes out), then you'll need to be prepared gear wise. Even casual raiding guilds usually require players to have certain minimum stats before they may take them on raids. If you're on the horde side, sometimes this is made even tougher by the fact that since there are fewer people it can be harder to first get into a guild that raids, and then second find groups to run the dungeon instances to help gear up your character. It's a trade off between that and playing Alliance which tends to be higher populated but also has a higher concentration of bad players both personality and skillwise. Overall depending on how hardcore you are, it can take anywhere from a few months if you play almost non-stop to closer to a year if you're just taking it easy and going at your own pace. Raiding tends to have a large barrier to entry overall.
3. As mentioned earlier, there's horde and alliance and they can only attack their opposite faction out in the open world. Keep in mind that on a PvP server you will get killed by higher level players for sport. It can happen repeatedly. There may be nothing you can do about it other than to issue a call out for help and hope that some good willed player comes to your aid. The Battlegrounds in the game are objective based like CTF, Capture and Hold, etc. The arenas are made to be small skirmish battles that never last more than a few minutes. There is no collision detection in this game, so players can run right through one another. IMHO, the pvp in WoW is not very good, and it is clearly not a central focus of the development team. If you are looking for a PvP focused game, WoW is what I consider half baked in that category. It has good ideas, but it needs more work. That is merely my opinion.
4. It depends on if you find raids fun. I'll put forth the disclaimer that I have not raided in the BC expansion at all. I did raid back before the BC expansion came out but I hear that a lot of that has changed. It really comes down to if you like a semi massive battle with your guild against a super powered boss, and if you don't mind the thought of potentially having to run the same raid instance week after week.
5. As in any MMO healers are typically the least played class. Based on the classes you listed, either a Priest or a Shaman would work if you're looking to get into a guild. However, you should also play something you enjoy. Do you enjoy healing? Do you enjoy support? Because that is what you would be doing if you chose a priest or a shaman. A hunter can be a fun class to play in a non-serious manner. I have one that I've been very slowly leveling up whenever I don't feel like playing my main. I won't ever try to raid with him or even pretend that I'm any good at playing him. But he is still very fun to play when I want a change of pace. Hunters can also make good money making characters for you if you have a healing speced character that is a pain to solo with.
Hope that helps out, good luck!

ah thanks :) lol
6-9 days is nothing :p
l2 my played time was about 180 days and i never reached max level. only a handful of people have and most are accused of botting. :p
but now with the patch levelling is mush faster...sucks...kinda feels like i wasted my time as what i reached in years can now be reached in months. :)

i hate games that take centuries to level to max. but thats just me.
you will find WoW to be way way way way way less grinding and a whole lot more fun. if you like lore and questing, that's the basics of how you level in the game. of course, you can grind it out still. but why?

Agreed elsegundo... I found WoW to take a long time ,and I think it still takes a fairly long time to hit max level. This on one of the easiest leveling MMO's ever, lol.

Judgment call, some folks like them, others don't. Depends on you as a person on whether or not you'd like to have them or not.
EDIT: oh iv never liked mmo trials. can never really show me how an mmo is truly as they are usually so limited :)
Trial account limitations.
- A level cap of 20.
- A maximum of 10 gold.
- Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks.
- Inability to trade via the auction house, mailbox, or player-to-player.
- In-Game public chat channels will be unavailable. (Players will still be able to communicate using say, party, or whispers).
- Characters will be unable to create or join existing guilds.
- Accounts will no longer be able to whisper other players unless they have been added to those players' friends lists or have received a whisper from them first.
- Characters will not be able to invite players into a party.
- Characters will not be able to join parties with other players above level 20.
- Voice Chat is disabled on trial accounts.
- Realms with login queues will give priority to customers with retail accounts.
- Will not be eligible for any Character Transfer service.
For the rest, perfectly suitable to get your feet wet.
oh also is the EU or NA version of wow bloked in hong kong.
becuse i will be moving there for college. :)
Not blocked afaik, although I'd suggest the US version, if only so you can hook up to the Oceania servers, which are closer in timezone to you, so it should be easier to find a guild etc. Might reduce ping rates a bit as well.
Have to note though, that once you start on the US servers, that's where you'll stay. You won't be able to transfer those characters to the EU servers afterward. Also something you might want to consider.

The only reasons to get TBC straight away is to either play one of the new races, or take up the new profession (jewelcrafting)
If neither of those reasons are valid, probably best to wait and spread the costs over a time.

no deal if you buy them together.
the battle chest is £25. dont really want the books that come with it so no point :)
il probably get bc by the end of the month. just wanted to play a bit of wow for the next couple weeks instead of wait :)

Or, if you want to play in their zones. It's a tad easier getting to 20 in the more compact new races zones, than it is in the rest of the Old World. Things are more spread out there.

warlocks are awesome.
but thats just my opinion. not every class is right for everyone. with you liking hunters and shamans, i think you're really into the class that has a little bit of ranged and melee capabilities. warlocks are more like hunters, where you have a pet for support, but the pets are more specialized than hunter pets. im not sure how you play your shaman, but im guessing you run up to them and blast them away with magical melee hits and stuff. you might also want to consider a druid, though with the druid, you willl not get all the forms at once. cat form isnt til level 20, and if you go balance, moonkin form is earliest at, 40 i think. in any case, play what you like, they all scale well into later levels. no class is really "boring" later on, if that's what you're asking for.

yes. my shaman iv just been using magical melee.
but ive been doing some searching on shaman apparently they get boring at higher levels.
so its between hunter and warlock atm,

Good idea. I'm a bit of an altoholic, so I've one of every class of the server, spanning all of the professions as well.
Main advantages are that you can use most items that you find (except the bop instance stuff) and you can rotate and play on rested exp, which makes levels go fast as well.
Horses for courses, of course. Some people like to play one char exclusively, getting to 70 and end game stuff asap. I found that to be a little boring and welcome the chance to do something different if the mood takes me.
Whatever you do, a bank/ah alt cannot be recommended higly enough. Very useful in many ways.

If you want to raid I would highly suggest you stay away from hunters.
I will preface this by saying my first 70 was a hunter. He is still one of my favorite characters. They have a lot of utility and are just a fun class to play. But what you will find when it comes to raid time, even if you are an amazing hunter is that most raid guilds are just not accepting more hunters. My guild has a set statement. We have so many hunters that are fighting for raid spots and gear right now that it wouldnt be fair to bring on more hunters.
I have only played a priest to level 31 and I just couldnt take it anymore. If thats your choice I wish you better luck then me.
Shamans!!!! Ok I love this class. I am actually starting my second one right now. I have a raid ready Resto shaman that is my pride and joy. Shamans give you alot of options.
1. Enhancement is one of the best solo leveling builds. Dont use your totems and keep your spells to a minimum and you can tear through mobs with no downtime.
2. Elemental! A caster in chain mail! I have seen high end elemental shamans top damage charts. They are a little tougher to level only because the down time to sit and get your mana back.
3. Resto! Shamans make some of the best end game healers. Chain healing is awesome and again the fact that you can wear chainmail really increases your survivability!
They really are a fun class and I never found them boring at all. If you go enhancement you are swinging the biggest two handed weapon you can find with windfury and killing things very quickly. Then dual wield brings an explosion of damage.
I am a bit biased though.

just gonna warn you now, the hunter at level 20 works just about the same way as a hunter at level.... 60. send pet + shoot.
for a warlock, this really depends on your pet, spec, and spell rotation. you have a lot more spells, and a lot more mana to hit people with spells with. you'll find more variety with warlocks. but just remember that when you get hit, it hurts a lot more than on a hunter.

1)how is the comunity. i hear it sour
2)how long is it till i can raid
3) how is pvp..is it free for all.
4)how are the raids. fun? time?
5)what classes are most wanted in guilds. i was thinking of playing hunter, priest, or shaman.
1. The community has its bad apples the same as any other mmo. But overall, WoW players are fairly decent as long as you're not stupid. (This means no begging for gold, no begging for run throughs, no beginning stupid conversations on trade)
2. Most raids now start when your toon reaches lvl 70, and manages to get a decent set of instance/heroic instance gear. So, that depends entirely on how long it takes you to get to 70, and how long it takes you to get that gear. Also, how long it takes you to find a raiding guild.
3. Free for all? Pvp realms have all players pvp enabled once they leave their starting zones, so they're free game. Also, all battlegrounds are pvp enabled and pretty much become a free for all.
4. Raids occur on your guild's raiding schedule. Which is another depends on what you get answer. My guild raids Tues, Thurs, and Sun, 6-9 pm cst. But that's just us, the answers you'll get are many and varied. We have a guild who doesn't go through the doors until midnight. We have another guild who starts their raids at 8am. I love raiding. I think it's the greatest thing in the game, but likewise, there are those who would disagree with me.
5. I am a shaman. (resto, 8/0/53) I never lack for raid invites. My priest, likewise, would never lack for them if I bothered to play her often enough (and get her to 70) Hunters are much more difficult to find a home for. Certainly, every end game raiding guild needs a handful of very good ones, but so many players roll one that there are so many, and they're not easy to play well.
