View Full Version : Anyone getting randomly disconnected?

Tonight I logged into my bank alt to clear his mailbox from AH-mail and stuff my other chars sent him. Oddly enough I didn't get a "you've got mail icon". Now I wasn't 100% certain I had sent him anything or that I had posted anything on the AH. I just logged in to make sure.

I perused his bags a bit and found a Primal that I thought I might as well sell while I was on that char. So I ran towards the AH (Stormwind mailbox -> AH) and noticed something peculiar. A NE Hunter had an Undead mount. The buff said Deathcharger (now that I think about it, it's probably one who ran Strat UD and got lucky). I inspected him out of sheer curiousity and I noticed two things: his (actually: her) name was "Unknown" and every item I moused over showed "Retrieving Item Information".

Now previously Swatter had caught an error from some Auctioneer-module so I thought that had something to do with it, so I checked my addons (using an addon for that, so I don't need to log out). Then suddenly BAM! back to the Login screen. "Disconnected from server".

Every char I tried had the same thing. Bad tooltips (only my own gear worked) and several unknowns. Not everyone, but about 10%. Even removing ALL of my addons did nothing to help. I can also not chat in any form to anyone.

Even on my WotLK beta account the very same symptoms. Surely, I think, the problem has to lie with me. But yet, to be on the safe side, I'm asking here: Anyone else getting this?

Next I will attempt rebooting my PC and then my router. Maybe one of those'll help...

EDIT:
- My PC had installed windows updates the night before, but I had let it stand there w the "Your computer needs to restart" notice because I was downloading... something . So I thought I'd give it what it wants and rebooted. Result: No help, but the backgrounddownloader did pop up after quitting the game
- Maybe my router was doing funky things: I unplugged it, let it sit there for a second or three and plugged it back in. Result: No help.

Maybe my laptop will fare better. If nothing else it'll serve as a pointing finger to the guilty device. My router or my pc.

Update: booted up my laptop shortly after. Worked perfectly.

Next:
- delete WDB-cache folder
- try again
- delete (well, move) Interface and WTF-folders
- try again
- copy over installation from laptop
- try again

Although the fact that it's happening on my beta-install too and not at all on my laptop (who also has beta) makes me fear that the problem is on the OS-level.

Update: Clearing the WDB cache folder didn't do jack

Renamed my Account folder in my WTF and renamed my Addons-folder in my Interface. Problems went away. Then selectively restored addons and setting based on "what don't I really need THAT much". Logged back in and everything was still peachy (though some addons lost their settings, but that was quickly remedied).

This morning, logged into my main, same thing happened again!
Logged back in, everything went good...

Switched to my alt pally after about 30 mins and it was back. Right before leaving for work I found something saying I should update my network-card driver. So I did. Instead of rebooting I shut down due to time-contraints.

I'll see tonight what it did...
