View Full Version : Dependence on Leveling Guides?

So I am stuck at work and I was browsing through some leveling guides. Of course Jame's leveling guide is by far the most popular free guide. I was just browsing through the site, reading people's comments about it and a lot of them were positives and praised his guides. And that's cool.

But some people were ridiculous. People like these make me feel not only super smart, but also makes me feel not newby.

"With ya on this. Thanks to Jame's guide I'm quickly approaching 60. Wondering the ETA and if I need to battleground for a while at 59 while the 61-70 guide is being finished. Thanks for the amazing work Jame!"

"Yeah! JAme i had a blast following the guide i went from 20-60 in just a matter of days and once i got to outlands i just paniced im so lost and counting on you for the lvl 60-70 guide!! Please aware us if you are going to be coming out with one cuz i am anxious!!"

Ok...so guides are good. Yeah, we use them at one point or another...I haven't really followed word to word with Jame's guide...but these people make it seem as if the game is unplayable without it. Somehow I think that guides don't do the game justice because it handicaps the gamer in the game that he/she wants to play.

There is no way someone should be lost and anxious in OL.

Unless of course you're an alliance hunter

edit: oh, and I don't think these people should be playing WoW..at least not like this. They just want to go to end game without experience? GG to the people in their group, they will wipe no doubt. If all they care about is leveling to 70, then please proceed to play Guild Wars, where you can level your char to max level in two days and also make a maxed out pvp char from the start.

Those people are the .01% population of idiots in the world.

Honestly, I think Leveling Guides pre-TBC were absolutely great, I checked out a couple (free) ones just to check to make sure I was going the correct way, which I always was ahead of the curve. Thing is, with that patch that made it obsolete to grind, I don't see the point of leveling guides. Unless you're working on max level pre-70 so that you can be doing Terokkar quests to hit 70, I wouldn't use grinding as a viable means to level.

These people need to find QuestHelper.

its easy to level up in wow. even without the guide, someone can level with quest helper just as fast. what james does is skips some of the retardedly silly quests and goes straight to the ones that you can do in rapid succession, within the same vacinity, and ones that you can do easily solo. he does mention some instances. with that, even people with a 1/4 of a brain can level up decently. i've used his guide once to level up one of my... erm... 4 alliance alts, and joana's guide for one of my 3 horde alts. the remainder have been just naturally aspirated progression.

No one should EVER pay for a guide. It's that simple. Sure, play with guides that are free... If you pay for a guide you're obviously an idiot who needs to be punched in the face, lol. If that seems harsh, say "Hey, I know a way you can breathe... except... You'll breathe the air at a better rate. Pay me 15 bucks and I'll tell you the secret. Yeah, don't read the fine print at the bottom of this page, just sign."

Those guides are nice for getting an alt to 60. They try to reduce the traveling you have to do for quests by grouping them together and ignoring quests that take too long for the experience you get. I also like how they let you know when a quest is coming up that you will need to buy something off AH for (like frost oil or elixirs of . . .) so you don't have to run back and hope it is for sale when you get that quest. In my opinion they are not so needed for the 60-70 right now as there as so many quests and few of them involve going to a different zone. Plus I like to run more instances when I get to outland but that is just my preference. On the other hand when wraith comes out a guide to quickly get to 70 will have more importance. But I agree you shouldn't actually buy one.

60-68 will be a very small problem for people since the exp required is going to be reduced for 60-70 at the release, unlike TBC which took months and months and months to get a patch for the lowered exp.

Ah I didn't know that. Sounds like a good idea though. They are trying to not create too large a hurtle for new players.

Yeah, I'm glad they'll be dropping the exp needed, it's definately a requirement with any expansions in the future as well.

so there's no real benefit in getting alts levelled to 70 now, as it will be much easier when 3.0 is out. Is that a correct interpretation?

1-60 won't be noticably easier, as those levels have already been adjusted. it's the 60-70 grind that will go faster. I'm not killing myself to have 8 lvl 70s on my main server in time for the expansion, and other than my first 80, all the other characters are probably going to get leveled when they have rested XP.

Well, so far I have every class but my Priest (He's getting there though.) to Outland, and it won't bother me when patch 3.0 comes out, because even if it's around a month from now... I most likely won't be able to level my final 4 chars to 70 in that time, even with them being level 61, 63, 63, 65, then my Priest who will be 60ish.
