Ok, so I have been looking for something fun to do with my WoW time and decided to try and solo an instance. I figured, I've never ran scholo completely, why not that? i fly to Chillwind only to find out I need a key. No worries, Im a mage so I port around doing the various quests, the whole thing takes about 30 mins (mostly flight time :embarassed:). I get back to chillwind, charge over to scholo and start the instance.

My first impression was...I should have emptied my bags. The mobs drop lots of runecloth and grey junk, bone chunks, some greens. I get to the first big room, and slowly start clearing it. On big pulls I summon my water elemental, sheep one, and just burn the others down. I only had one close call in the entire room so Im thinking its ok. I carry on and get to the next room with them spectral tudor things (not sure of the name). I remember they are a pain so I focus on them in large groups and just "tank" the other adds.

I realize with mage armour up, I resist about 70% of the spells thrown at me, and I always ensure that I have ice barrier up, so health isnt really an issue but more, going OOM. I keep on trucking and get to the room with the plagued hatchlings. They are tough for non-elites but the casters are actually alot worse. They have a blast wave spell which spams for high damage, and a cone of cold thing too. Almost wipe on the first pull but I figure it out and eventually clear the room.

Now comes the nasty part. I get to the room with Rattlegore in it, and all those "construct" guys in it. I pull one but underestimate him and he actually kills me in a few hits when enraged. I was stunned but quickly corpse run back in and get back there for revenge. This time I kite more and kill him, and pull a few more, again kiting. Get the front cleared so I decide to pull Rattlegore.

First off, he brings an add, which totally sours the fight. I run out, and decide to call it a night. I am looking for some advice here. Do you need to clear the entire room before pulling old Rattleface? Also, anyone have any strats for him? I dont think I can snare him. Oops gotta go do some work.

No idea on strats, I've only ever done him with my hunter and rogue.
But yes, clear the room first. If you just go around the outer edge of the room and pull, he will stay up on his bone pile and not bother you.

Oh, and I believe he drops th eviewing room key, so you need to kill him before you get to do the other rooms :)

ok thanks. Sorry for the quick ending to my story, but one of my managers came in so I had to go do stuff. I am wondering also if I should even bother an attempt with my dps warrior. I have mostly epics and decent health/armor. I am worried about the large groups of 4 though. i dont think my magic resist will be high enough and armour doesnt help with spell damage. Might be fun for a test though. Will likely try it tonight if I have the key, but I cant see myself doing that quest again, considering how awful it would be to actually have to fly all those routes, not being a mage and all.

If you want a good excuse for going there again, look for a lvl 59 pally and offer to help them on their lvl 60 mount quest. (They might even be 60+ if they leveled fast and just haven't had time to go get their mount) Killing that room with Rattlegore is one of the major quest steps. (Actually you have to clear the room and then you start the quest which spawns 4 waves of mobs)

You don't have the clear the room to pull Rattlegore, but you have to be careful. IIRC there is a mob that patrols up and down his mound, and you need to pull him when the mob isn't too close.

Rattlegore himself is going to be hard for a caster, unless he can be snared - he hits very hard in melee for a 5-man boss.

Worked for me on my mage:

Clear the entire room, as well as the room with the hatchlings above.
If frost specced, keep Ice Barrier up all the time, and make sure Rattlegore himself is slowed so you can kite him. He shouldn't be able to keep up with you, which is a good thing considering he hits pretty hard on cloth, even at 70.
Kite him to the room above (hatchlings) and when he comes close to you, jump down one of the holes on the sides, taking you back to Rattles rooms, while he has to run down the stairs, giving you the time to use a quick bandage if needed.
Make sure to slow him asap when he comes down, blink through him when he gets close, and repeat the kite.

the next room after rattlegore has packs of magic immune mobs. have fun with these :P

and yes, for rattlegore himself you need to clear the room and use the kite / jump down trick. there is a video by faxmonkey called "even stupider mage tricks" where he soloes rattlegore using this tactic at lvl 60 :)

lol thanks for the tips guys. Ive noticed that at 70 you can basically run right by the mobs and they rarely aggro. I did run this instance over the weekend on my dps warrior and absolutely crushed everyone and everything inside, except for near the very end, these mobs start off as humanoids, but at low health turn into wraiths that are immune to physical damage. Pretty much stopped me in my tracks, not sure how I can deal with them to kill the last boss. Also, the butcher is by far the toughest boss in the instance, he hits super fast and surprisingly hard, nearly killed me. other than that it was a cake walk. Cleave plus whirlwind = lots of dead mobs. I think after most of the stuff I auctioned sold, I made almost 120g, and it only took about 45 minutes. Not bad for when you have already done your dailies and dont feel like doing anything hardcore.

Hmm, non-physical damage for a warrior... engineering bombs, lots of? No, they have a cooldown. Any other ideas, folks? :-)
